The basic opinion is very simple ; in reference to famous words of the most valuable things for success are 3P's ; People ,People and People. I mean the Albanians. And although Berat City is located a bit outside of the main route of planned goals of tourist trips it's worth to being there at least a few days. I plan to go back there very soon. We had over half a day (arriving at 3pm and leaving by 11am), the area is very walkable and as it was summer, we could walk after dinner till about 8pm before it got dark. There is alot of life in the main square after dinner and that was nice to see people/ families in the park and at cafes. The lights of the buildings come on and is beautiful against the night sky. Berat is amazing. Too many come for a day !
Berat is amazing. Too many come for a day ! We arranged through the local tour guide at the start of the road to the castle to go to Pupa winery for evening meal, Great food ,great place and great driver . There are many good places to eat. That is before we get to the early morning trips to the castle .. Anxhelo traditional food is exceptional value and lovely people Berat needs to be experienced not just photographed We drove here from Elbasan through many villages and Belsh , a great journey low traffic and great places to stop.. Berat needs more than 2 nights because the trips to the canyon, wineries etc will take your time. The tourist info shop is ina cabin opposite the Cathedral and Lead mosque which are also worth visiting . The mosque was built 1557 but the cathedral is a rebuild . We felt that Berat had lots to offer than Gjirocaster . The Berat Castle is open 24 hours and is free to enter. It offers a good glimpse into the history of the castle. Throughout Berat there are many info boards sharing the significance of an area or point of interest. In the old town, there is a free gallery/ info boards with history if different political figures- close to the Tradita Berat hotel. There are many restaurants that offer good food and prices are competitive. An Unforgettable Visit to Berat We absolutely loved our visit to Berat! The city is full of history, charm, and breathtaking sights. One of the highlights was exploring Berat Castle, which offers stunning views over the city and the surrounding landscapes – truly a must-see. The castle itself is rich in history, and walking through its ancient walls was an experience we won’t forget. Another gem was the beautiful Trinity Church, a peaceful and serene spot that added to the spiritual and historical atmosphere of the city. We also enjoyed wandering through the picturesque streets of the old town, especially the UNESCO-listed Mangalem and Gorica quarters, with their white Ottoman-style houses. The local museums, like the Ethnological Museum and the Onufri National Iconographic Museum, gave us a deeper understanding of Berat’s culture and history. Berat’s stunning views, historical landmarks, and warm atmosphere make it a destination we’ll definitely return to!Guest review byD BrumNetherlands
