At the meeting point of Australia’s Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast, laidback Brisbane is spread around the meandering river running through it. The river’s arty South Bank is home to Australia’s largest modern art gallery, tranquil gardens and an artificial beach. Just opposite is the towering skyline of Brisbane's CBD, where many hotels in Brisbane city centre are located.
Nearby are the botanic gardens and Queen Street Mall, the most popular Brisbane shopping spot. More shopping centres are found all over the city, and the out-of-town malls include one in the Indooroopilly suburb by the foothills of Mount Coot-tha.
This green hill offers fabulous city views and has a planetarium, nature reserve and yet more botanic gardens. In Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to the south you can hug one of the loveable animals, while Australia Zoo – Steve Irwin’s legacy – is a good day trip.
Brisbane is a very leafy city and one of its parks – Wickham Park – contains the Old Windmill, Brisbane’s oldest building. To the north-east, the Fortitude Valley suburb is known for its vibrant music scene and Chinatown. Across the river in Woolloongabba is The Gabba or Brisbane Cricket Ground, and nearby is the bohemian West End district.
As well as central accommodation, Booking.com also offers hotels near Brisbane Airport in a north-eastern coastal suburb.
It has deteriorated. It has an hourly service on weekends and a half hourly service weekdays on the Doomben line. The Stradbroke last Saturday is Qld'x biggest horse race of the year. You'd think the Qld government could put on trains on this line to run every half hour 9am to 5.30 pm on this Saturday every year.

We stayed in Brisbane for 2 nights with my son and family.
We stayed in Brisbane for 2 nights with my son and family. They picked us up from the airport. Our apartment was in the CBD. Very central for walking with a young family. Plenty of restaurants and cafes . Southbank is always lovely for Saturday morning markets. Our best experience for the Adults was definitely the Brisbane Casino, it was absolutely beautiful in design, the many different levels. It was massive, all the bars, people interacting, loved everting about it.

Brisbane city was great.
Brisbane city was great. We stayed central, near the river, and had a great time walking around the city streets, up the river to a craft brewery (Felons) under the bridge, and back to our hotel.
Plenty of places to shop at and eat, and a few laneways to explore.
We also did a day drip to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, as you can purchase tickets to ride a boat from city up the river, enjoy the sanctuary, then catch it back to the city. This takes half a day at least, so would recommend putting a day aside (my plan had us travelling to Surfers Paradise in the same day after we did this, which ended up being a long day, but it was doable with a plan in place).

Brisbane is a very easy city to navigate, trains into the city, or Uber, Queen Street mall is OK I guess if you want/need to go shopping, which I don't.
Trains available to the Gold Coast.
If you are holidaying Brisbane has lots of great history, much of which is hidden in plain sight. South Bank is lovely for a walk, and has many shows and exhibitions.

Great city and the ferry travel was simply a world class way to explore the river and eateries. It provided a balance between transport and walking which we appreciated. Our Japanese restaurant fine dining experience was simply outstanding.

Great food and shopping precincts.
Great food and shopping precincts. The brew cafe (down an alley way) provided brunch on our way back to Brisbane from our Cruise and it was the best scrambled eggs I have had for a long while. Eggs benedict were spectacular by all accounts from our friends joining us. Chinatown was a bit disappointing. I went there years ago and had a great experience with Asian cuisine the form of a food court where all the locals ate and it was also very good and cheap. The pub scene was still the same lively outdoor style we experienced all those years ago.

Location, location, location. We could walk everywhere in the city from Central Station 20mins, to QPAC in Southbank for a show 40mins and round the Brisbane River for exercise 7km in 1.5hour. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Great view of the river from our room. Bed was very comfortable, large bathroom, nice amenities, towels and linens. Pool was heated as was the spa. Nice size gym and great sauna - none of it crowded or to busy yet the hotel was very busy with Riverfire, Whisky event and a wedding.
The staff (and the cleaners) were really lovely & the bathroom was newly renovated. It was the cheapest CBD Hotel in Brisbane that weekend so you have to keep that in mind.
The views are absolutely amazing from the apartment during the day and at night. Location is superb, everything in Brisbane CBD and Southbank is within easy walk.
