Excellent location and a nice medium between a hotel and an apartment. The hotel had a proper mini fridge, stove and microwave. The room was designed to minimise noise from the corridor. There was a hairdryer and ironing board. The gym was really good with proper equipment, kettlebells and dumbbells.

FAQs about hotels in Canberra

Culture, Politics and Military Mix

A popular quiz question is: what’s the capital of Australia? If you answered Sydney or Melbourne then it’s time to discover the real answer – Canberra. With Parliament House at its core, Canberra fans out across both sides of Lake Burley Griffin to reveal a diverse mix of museums, restaurants and bars filled with curious tourists, political persons and public servants.

Canberra was created as a solution to Australia’s 2 largest cities squabbling over the right to become the national capital. The Limestone Plains region in New South Wales was chosen as the site for present day Canberra. It was a good choice for nature lovers as it is surrounded by bushland, mountain ranges and, more recently, wineries.

The National Gallery, National Museum and National Library of Australia highlight Canberra’s cultural riches. Other notable institutions to visit are the High Court of Australia and the National Film and Sound Archive that stockpiles a collection of Australia’s early radio, television and film history.

The military also plays a significant role here with many training facilities for the army such as the Australian Defence Force Academy. An unforgettable experience is attending the Anzac Day Dawn service at The Australian War Memorial.

Australia’s cultural capital with a political punch has many hotels, motels and apartments on Booking.com for that city trip, business jaunt or family holiday.

Canberra is a well-planned and picturesque city, offering a wide range of activities and attractions for all ages. It’s especially family-friendly, with many free facilities and experiences such as the National Arboretum Canberra, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, Canberra Outlet, Questacon, and the Australian War Memorial. One of Canberra’s unique charms is its clearly defined four seasons. Each visit can feel entirely different—enjoy warm, sunny days in spring and summer, admire the vibrant colours of autumn, or experience the crisp, icy beauty of winter. There’s something for everyone: sip coffee in the city centre (Civic), explore the historic charm of Manuka, or try diverse cultural cuisines in Dickson. Outdoor lovers can cycle around Lake Burley Griffin, hike up Mount Ainslie for stunning views, or immerse themselves in knowledge and history at the National Library of Australia.

Do NOT book into 'Serenity at Stromlo' in Canberra.

Do NOT book into 'Serenity at Stromlo' in Canberra. Filthy dirty, dirty beds and human hair in between the sheets. Moldy bathroom and half used products in bathroom and kitchen. Mattress protectors covered in yellow stains and blood spots. GROSS! Completely unprofessional and unworthy of being listed on Bookings.com Bookings.com have chosen to ignore all our emails and when we go through the long and tedious process of calling them, they conveniently disconnect us as soon as a complaint is raised about one their listings. Not good enough Bookings.com We have been with you for soooo many years and this is how you treat our loyalty. We lost over $200.00 as we could not stay in this apartment as is was so dirty and we have not been able to get a refund through Bookings.com LOVE Canberra though and will be back again soon. Our favourite place is the Arboretum and the Zoo. Fantastic!

We visited Canberra 10 years ago for 3 days and not long enough to see everything. This visit was for 7 days and we saw everything. A car is essential to get around. You need to book popular restaurants for dining so you don't miss out. Make sure you take very warm winter clothing. You can cloak on arrival at galleries, etc.

Showed Brisbane family around, and Mount Ainslie says it all in capturing Canberra ambiance and layout with the exceptional view. Very beautiful city and environs. Unfortunate that most Australians see Canberra purely as "Seat of Government", rather than "Canberra the place" where interest and beauty, and history abound.

    Wonderful City for a holiday.

Wonderful City for a holiday. The cultural institutions are fascinating places to visit and you can get very close to Parliament Buildings. The Museums, Galleries and Libraries are unique to Australia and so informative and thought-provoking. The Australian War Memorial is a place that every Australian should visit and we could have spent a week there learning about our struggles as a Nation. Very proud of our Capital City.

This property is great value for money given the service and accomodation it provides. This was my second time staying at this hotel and each time I have found the front desk customer service to be excellent. The bar at the top of the hotel is quite nice and has a great view. The hotel is also located in the nicest part of Canberra not far from Manuka and Kingston. Avoid staying in the ‘city’ (civic) as it’s bland, unappealing and only worth visiting for the shopping centre and a couple of bars.

Quest City Walk is located at the heart of Civic and it is easily accessible via bus and light rail. From there, you can visit many landmarks around Canberra by foot or by public transport. The hotel is clean and has all the essential amenities which you need. The only downside is that room service is not available on weekends. The hotel also provides free laundry service, very handy for guests on a long stay.

We enjoyed our stay at the Mercure. We liked the fact that the hotel was a heritage building. We loved the on-site pub. It was very good value. The hotel was about a 20-minute walk from the city centre. Overall, we would have enjoyed the location and Canberra more if we had rented a car. The tourists sites are very spread out. It would also have been nice to visit some places outside of the city.
