Darwin displays a cocktail of cultures from ‘Aussie larrikins’ to the local Aboriginals from Larrakia Country. Throw in an influx of international visitors who now call the Top End of Australia home, and this concoction bedazzles with busy outdoor markets and an adequate supply of drinking holes (pubs).
The modern Darwin Wharf precinct, including Stokes Hill Wharf, still gleams on those endless summer days having been rebuilt after the destruction caused both during World War II bombings and Cyclone Tracey. Grab a bar stool with a view of the harbour or a seat on a terrace and sip a cool drink in Australia’s northernmost, tropical capital city.
A popular time for tourists is Darwin’s dry season that starts in May and ends in October. If you prefer it hot and humid, then the end of the wet season can be spectacular when the waterfalls in Kakadu and Litchfield national parks are at their mightiest.
Australia’s wild frontier can be reached all the way from Adelaide and Alice Springs along the picturesque Stuart Highway that ends at Daly Street in the CBD. Outside the centre are the natural surrounds in Palmerston, Humpty Doo and closer by is Mindil Beach with its famous Sunset Market.
Darwin International Airport has international flights from Singapore and Bali. You can choose from a variety of hotels, hostels and apartments on Booking.com.

Darwin seems like a decent spot during peak tourist season, but this year it just didn’t take off. It felt like a ghost town. Everything closes really early, there’s not much going on except for the backpacker crowd, and public transport is quite poor. On the positive side, the sunsets at the beach are absolutely beautiful, and the crocodile experience on the Adelaide River is truly a must-do.

Darwin is an easy place to enjoy, you do not have to travel too far to understand the culture and the hidden places to enjoy. The people are always ready to tell you more stories of Darwin. The history and the culture present a picture that is worth the journey.

This is the first time we have been to Darwin and we have stayed at 4 different motels all of which were great. Darwin was much bigger than we expected and we were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience.
Our stay in Darwin was for 3 weeks and was a lovely break from our normal travel in our new Toyota Hiace Camper Van.
We have been to as many tourist destinations as we could plus more. The guided tour of Parliament House was simply outstanding!
Thoroughly recommended for any prospective traveller / visitor.
In my opinion Darwin needs to be promoted far better in the southern states.
We are currently travelling around Australia from Central Victoria.
We love Darwin!

I am not a fan of hot weather however, during my visit, the humidity was not high and the temperature, while hot, was not unbearable.
Darwin is a lovely small city (which I love) and the people are friendly.

We have travelled to Darwin 4 times and have always enjoyed the Territory.
Darwins waterfront precinct is fantastic and caters to the tourist perfectly as does Stokes Hill Whalf and local markets.
The food is great with so many different Asian influences we never had a disappointing meal.
There is so much history and so much to do.
You can have action packed adventures or just walk through beautiful parks untill you find a shaded place to take in the sights.
Darwin city centre unfortunately, has many run down and empty buildings, making the place look tired and uninviting.
There was evidence of serious violence on the footpaths outside the city supermarket and signs of substance abuse in the city parks.
You might say the shine has gone off the city centre but the suburbs seem to be thriving.

1. Location!! The apartment has excellent views of Darwin Waterfront and Harbour- we were lucky to witness all the Christmas festivities and light shows from our wide balcony. And, its a quick trip to the lift and down to join in on the action, restaurants and park on the doorstep.
2. Modern, comfortable, clean, spacious apartment is what our family of 7 needs ( 2 kids, 5 adults)
The room and hotel areas were clean, the room was comfortable and the hotel is in a great location, close to the city restaurants and bars and Darwin Waterfront and lagoon. The gardens are pleasant and the pool area was inviting.
Proximity to Darwin airport was excellent and a free bus to take us to the hotel was highly appreciated as that was least expected. I also like the fact that guests can be provided with free ride to the airport 24/7
