Surrounded by Lake Geneva and glorious Alpine peaks, tranquil Montreux has enchanted artistes through the ages. Lord Byron was so inspired by the style and setting of waterfront Château de Chillon that he wrote a poem about it. Nowadays it is one of Switzerland’s most popular attractions.
Freddie Mercury also fell in love with Montreux and a lakefront statue in Place du Marché commemorates this former resident in typical pose, with one arm raised to the heavens. Queen fans flock here for the annual Memorial Day, just one musical festival hosted by this town. The most famous is the 2-week Montreux Jazz Festival, held in the Music & Convention Centre.
On the opposite side of town is Audiorama (the Swiss National Audiovisual Museum), near a funicular railway which climbs the hill. Further up the slopes is the family-friendly Rochers-de-Naye ski area, while the Les Pléiades pistes overlook neighbouring Vevey. Down at the quayside wooden chalets house stalls of the annual Christmas market.
Summer activities include boat trips, hiking and the Montreux-Oberland-Bernois narrow gauge railway whose trains allow you to really savour the views…and a nice cup of coffee.
The train station also connects to Geneva, site of the nearest airport, and Booking.com offers luxury hotels, apartments with views and cheap B&Bs nearby.

A fantastically picturesque small town on the Swiss shore of Lac Leman. Lake's water, palm trees on the shore, and mountains around are a unique combination that Switzerland is well known for. Beautiful lakeside promenade, exceptional Castle Chillon (more attractive as part of an internal picture than inside. A lot of renowned jazz fest signs are around. On the negative side, extremely expensive

We were there at the beginning of the season.
We were there at the beginning of the season. It was already quite crowded and they were setting up everything for the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Montreux is a traditional seaside tourist town. You can easily slow down, stroll along the lake, sit in cute cafés and bars or in the park and enjoy the international and diverse crowd passing by. There are easy short trips to the marvelous Chillon castle (by boat or bus), to some nearby mountaintops or neighboring towns. People swim in the lake. A very nice place was the café "Les Voiles". It is easy to get around on foot and there are also bus, train, boat options. I recommend staying 2-3 nights to really get into the vibe.

From the moment we arrived, until we left every day was enjoyable. From the room upgrade to the room its self. A very comfortable spacious size room a very good bathroom, plus free coffee making in the room. A thing not available in most Hotels we have stayed at. Montreux is a beautiful Town. The lake view is breath taking. The restaurants and sights are worth the visit. And this visit the weather was very warm for May.

Montreux was a peaceful place at Easter.
Montreux was a peaceful place at Easter. Not too many tourists and, although the weather wasn't great, there was plenty to see. I took accessible trains and buses to local towns and walked along the lakeside which is flat and very easy to navigate. There were plenty of places to eat and have coffee breaks. At night it felt very safe to walk to and from the lake to the hotel.

The host, Thomas, was really nice guy. He volunteered some advices how to get around Montreux interesting places, including the seasonal Xmas market. He was really friendly to accomodate our needs and provided assistance to carry our luggages. The B&B were spacious and have dining areas at 2nd and 3rd floor respectively. There are amenities for guests to prepare their own meals. I like the breakfast. The varieties could compete with some hotels, honestly. Definitely a good place to stay.

Delightful stay in an idyllic location - the hotel is an absolute gem of a property, and the restaurant provided a fantastic dinner quite late on our arrival evening. Although the tickets aren't cheap, the hotel is right next to the funiculaire which takes you right up to the top of the mountains at 2,000m, with some unforgettable sights (and option to walk back down). Will definitely be back on our next trip to Switzerland!

Fortunately the hotel gave us a room with a balcony at a higher level. It gave me a great opportunity to shoot night images of Lake Geneva and city of Montreux. The window at corridor can be opened for shooting elevated images of the city. Staying at this hotel had added extra value for our holiday in Switzerland. This is the most favorite hotel in our 8-days holiday after staying 5 hotels.
