In two days we had a good walk around including Michel and the harbour, the warehouse district, Miniature Wonderland, the philharmonic hall, saw a Beatles show at St Pauli theatre and St Nikolai tower and museum. Let me start with a small disclaimer: we booked this trip before I managed to acquire a rather impressive injury (10/10 for dramatic timing), so I was in the later stages of recovery and not exactly ready to take on the full “action-packed adventure” experience. My energy level was somewhere between “stoic hero” and “potted plant.” That said—had I been fully mobile and functioning like a regular human—I think it would’ve been absolutely brilliant. There’s a ton to do. The harbour tour? Fantastic. Highly recommend, even if your idea of movement is a slow swivel in your seat. The Russian U-boat museum was surprisingly enjoyable too—yes, even with my “delicately hobbling around” routine. And if you’re on the hunt for a good breakfast (and aren’t morally opposed to joy), head to Alex Restaurant at the Alsterpavillon. Just make sure to book ahead—and go early unless you want to engage in full buffet battle mode. Hamburg is a bit of diversity with the city landscape. You have a bit of Venis, Paris and Hamburg all in one. You have the big harbour where big containers ships and other vessels leave and the have canals that go in and throughout the city and people take taxi cabs. Along with this you have multile shops and restaurants to view and see. It is a beautiful city with lots of cool architecture. I was there 5 days but wish I had a bit more time. Reeperbhan as a night life area is perfect for a stag do. (I wouldn't recommend it for families.) Outside of this the city centre was really nice, clean with some interesting architecture. It was not the first time I was walking around Hamburg. I really enjoyed running along the lake and it has been really relaxing to meet all of these people walking around or sailing on the lake. The s-bahn only takes about 20min and most of the walk from it is in a nice park. To be honest, the only greater value for money would be staying in the city centre itself.
