Leipzig is putting on its historical dress. Conversing with long-time Leipzigers at a Gewandhaus symphony concert, their perspective was that "Leipzig is a music city like Vienna" and that you could spend a long time digging into its history and soaking in the music. Leipzig is a beautiful city for a short break. There is very little traffic and everywhere is within walking distance. It has many beautiful cafes to sit and watch the world go by and many museums and other attractions. If you get a chance, I would recommend an audio tour of Leizig under communism. Leipzig is a great cultural centre with many museums and galleries. Shopping is good and there are plenty of excellent coffee shops and eateries. Everyone we met seemed very helpful and friendly. The city centre is very compact and easy to walk around with an excellent tram system for further afield. We enjoyed our time in Leipzig - visiting Marktplatz, for the Christmas market, was fun and we hiked up the tower in the church for a nice view over the city and main square. We really enjoyed the zoo, walking around the city, visiting St. Thomas' church and going to the Kunstkraftwerk for the Dali:Cybernetics show.
