The fireflies. Being able to use the kitchen. I wish they'd listed that on the facilities so we could have brought food to cook since the local restaurants in Samana are so expensive despite being shabby. There are no decent supermarkets anywhere nearby. Great views and beach and woodland walks.

El valle is very very rural and wild.

El valle is very very rural and wild. We wanted total relax and this place is perfect for this. There’s only a few hotels and all of them have this eco-sustainable vibe that is amazing. If you’re staying at a house (not a hotel) I recommend buying good in Samaná before coming. There’s only very little “colmados” that have maybe ice, been and chips but not big like a super market. There’s not a a lot of restaurants either. Only a few of the hotels have them. There’s a local (and cheap) one called DON PIRON where you have a variety of dishes. There’s a pizzeria also. I also recommend a 4x4 car or at least one that’s not small, the roads are not in perfect shape and there’s lots of dirt roads.

Unfortunately the beaches around weren't in the best...

Unfortunately the beaches around weren't in the best conditions. However, that wasn't the hotel's fault. It was the fault of a tropical storm that had passed 2 months prior which affected everything. Despite this, the hotel staff did their best to recommend other activities like hikes and waterfalls, which were amazing. The food at the hotel restaurant is amazing. The location in which you stay has the mixture of being clearly in a tourist accommodated hotel but with a touch of the real Dominican experience. Prices around the whole area are quite fair. My main complaint would be that getting there in your own vehicle is complicated because of the conditions of the road for the last 20 minutes of the drive, as well as the conditions of the roads to get to the waterfalls. However, still an amazing trip. Would definitely return and recommend to friends and family.

    See my previous comments.

See my previous comments. Also, the dinner entrees were mostly vegetarian, no meat. No AC in summer is unbearable. Avoid this place unless you're cheap, think you're gonna save the planet by sweating and being miserable, and obsessed with virtue signaling. The roads in the area are ATROCIOUS, full of enormous holes, rocks and no pavement in many spots. You need an SUV to even have a chance to get around. These eco lodges run a great gas lighting con for all these millennial wokesters by convincing them there's something virtuous about paying them to recreate the Third World. It's possible to see mountains and beaches without living like Castaway or Gilligan's Island. A perfect example is the sign asking you to hang up towels. The only problem is there's nothing to hang them on and they never dry, anyway. If you think high heat and humidity are horrible, add sleeping under a mosquito net for even more discomfort.
