The property was right on the lock edge so the outlook was absolutely beautiful. On a sunny day or evening it would be beautiful sitting out there. Unfortunately for us it was heavy rain and from the storms so we were unable to enjoy this facility.

If you have ever wanted to stay in a luxurious heritage property, the Manor House in Oban lives up to its name. The beautiful Georgian home that once belonged to the 5th Duke of Argyll has been lovingly preserved and restored, including a gracious dining room and sitting room, and sleeping accommodation so elegant one might think that Queen Victoria had booked herself into a room across the hall. Guests are treated to updated bathrooms, luxury linens, period furniture and stunning views. The architecture is reason enough to visit but the exemplary staff enhance the desire to return. David, who was the manager on duty during our stay, offered exceptional advice and assistance, as did the servers and housekeepers who played an important role in maintaining the gold standard service. A stay at the Manor House is like a convivial visit with a favourite friend; everyone feels welcomed and is received with true pleasure, augmented by delicious food, dreamy bedrooms and breathtaking vistas.
We can’t wait for our next trip to Scotland and a longer stay at this lovely guest house.

Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.
The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.
Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.
Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.
As the capital of North Argyll, Oban has a great selection of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs available on Booking.com.

Stunning scenery, fabulous restaurants and eating places.
Stunning scenery, fabulous restaurants and eating places. Lots of touristy shops full of tat, but that’s what you get everywhere . Oban fish and chip shop fish tea was delicious. Highly recommend. Boat trip to see the seals was also a great way to see Oban from a different angle. Ferry’s leave all day for different islands.

Oban is a busy town, with lots of restaurants most of which seem to specialise in seafood, or burgers. It’s advisable to book to make sure you get a table. It is a very tidy town and the scenery is spectacular, if you get the weather. A bonus for us was the Oban High School Pipe Band playing in the square one evening. There is also a very interesting small museum, run by volunteers, well worth a visit. The climb to McCaig’s Tower is not for the faint hearted, but well worth it for the views.

This was my second trip to Scotland in different areas. I really enjoyed my time in Oban and I feel so far with all the other places I visited that this was one of my favorite little towns. It was quaint but still had the major conveniences of everything that you would need.

Lovely man at reception gave me a wonderful room at the top of this historic hotel, with a little seating area in a nook inside one of the turrets and a terrific view overlooking the harbour. The room was large and well-appointed, and the bed was comfortable. The Columba has a fantastic location, central to the charming town of Oban and just steps from a wide selection of shops and restaurants as well as the local distillery. The big bowl of candies at the front desk also is a friendly touch.
The staff were very engaging and friendly.
The hotel grounds are stunning
Near enough to Oban (short car journey) but far away enough to enjoy the peace and tranquility.
View from the front of the hotel on to the lake was fantastic.
Food was excellent.
Staff were very patient with my nervy (and loud) dog.
The interior of the reception etc. was absolutely superb.
The Kelvin Hotel was perfectly located for bus, train and ferry terminals. 5 minute walk to the hotel. We had a lovely welcome and we're checked in quickly with no fuss. The hotel was spotlessly clean. Although it's quite an old building, it was well maintained. There was a lovely little bar where residents could have a drink after a day out in Oban.
Breakfast was excellent. Chose this hotel because it was dog friendly. Easy check-in. Parking was a big plus as not many hotels in the Oban area provide parking.
Everything! Hotel and staff both amazing! Staff couldn’t have been any nicer or accommodating. Location was also perfect for walks in/out of Oban town centre.
