We have stayed here before, so we knew the hotel well. We paid an additional £10 to upgrade, for our one night stay, to a king room with a view over the front gardens to the city centre. The hotel is on a grand scale and we enjoyed our snack lunch in the impressive bar lounge and the breakfast next morning was to its usual high standard.
Unfortunately, we had problems with our toilet which we reported to reception on our way out for the evening and we were advised that they would try and fix the problem whilst we were out and they would have a standby room ready for us if the problem could not be fixed. When we returned later, there was still the issue with the toilet so the staff helped us move to the standby room which turned out to be a junior suite on the second floor with an even better outlook from our room.
We were very satisfied with how this problem was solved to our complete satisfaction. A big advantage is the available on site car parking where we were able to park as soon as we arrived in front of the hotel.

From the moment we walked in, all the staff we encountered were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We arrived before check in, they graciously stored our luggage. When we checked in, our luggage was already in our room. They cheerfully gave us tips about the city, and surrounding areas.
The room was small, yet very functional. There was plenty of storage space.
A boutique hotel in the heart of York just a 10-minute walk from York Minster.

There were so many thoughtful details here, and the rooms were just adorable. I can’t think of a single thing we didn’t like. The location was perfect for an easy walk to city center and a short ride to the train station, staff was super friendly and kind, the room was spacious and well-appointed (loved the inclusion of some records and a player in our room!), there were plenty of easily accessible outlets for two travelers, and the bath amenities were wonderful. My only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer.

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once gave access to the city.
Walk the walls for wonderful views of the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.
A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even try out archaeology for yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.
Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around a 30-minute drive away, Castle Howard is a stately home on an over 1,000-acre estate.
Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there's a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses in York and on the outskirts available on Booking.com.
Fabulous place. Loads of history, gardens, pubs, bars, restaurants, shops, market. Have been a few times & will definitely go back. There is a lovely riiver going through it with boat rides & nice pubs and bars alongside the river.

First time in York and loves it.
First time in York and loves it. Very friendly people and a great all round vibe. So much to see and some fab places to eat and drink.
Only downside, which didn’t spoil the trip, were the rowdy hen parties which looked out of place in such a lovely city.
Would nit recommend The Milner unless the bedrooms and bathrooms etc were refurbed as a total contrast to rest of the impressive hotel
Such a shock walking in to the bedrooms and certainly not in keeping with the rest of the hotel.

You can see a lot of York in two days but that's not visiting the various historic buildings and exploring in depth. For that you would need at least another two days. Be warned. Lots of walking involved but various places to stop and rest.

We always stay here when we visit york The location is perfect in the city centre close to the attractions restaurants and pubs the hotel overlooks the River and is only a 15 minute walk from the train station our room was on the 3rd floor their is a lift for guests to use our room was large and very clean with a ensuite bathroom including a bath the bed was very comfortable the buffet breakfast was delicious with plenty to choose from the staff were friendly and very helpful
From just arriving in the front of the hotel, we were helped with our luggage from the car to storage and taken to the room for us! Entrance is luxurious and inviting. Our rooms and en suite were spacious and with light appealing décor, with a large exceptionally comfortable bed!
All staff were so polite and helpful.
Spa area so nice and a perfect break for a couple of hours from the City over a short break
Location was perfect for York city centre!
The staff were very friendly which made a big difference. Good value for money considering you can use the spa facilities. The buss stop is a 2 minute walk with direct access to York city centre. Busses run twice an hour. Didn’t eat at the fat Abbott but would recommended the Thai beside the bus stop. Good selection of hot and cold buffet breakfast at hotel. The room was serviced after one day with new towels provided.
Lovely room in a national trust setting, good location, walk into York via canal or by bus from the road outside. Lovely swimming pool that I had to myself one morning! Hot tub and sauna great too. Gardens lovely to walk around and a terrace for drinks or cosy rooms inside. Staff the most attentive I’ve experienced in a while in a 4/5 star hotel.
Location, Location, Location. The hotel is in walking distance of York Minster and everything in York City Centre. Breakfast was very good and fresh with great service.
