Due to the position of Ermoupoli, built like an amphitheatre...
Due to the position of Ermoupoli, built like an amphitheatre into the hill, it would not be suitable for anyone with physical disabilities. Most properties, not actually around the harbour at sea level, are not accessible by car. Steep steps lead up to them - nearly 500 - to the top of the town. Where there are roads they are mostly single track but two way and cobbled. All the walkways are lined with polished stone or marble which is like a skating rink when wet. There are no beaches in the town but a platform has been built out into the sea for people to swim from and another area has been created to give the feeling of a swimming pool. But both areas are only suitable for swimmers. Ermopouli is typically Greek and as such it is beautiful.Guest review byMargaret - 10.0

Very different feel from other neighboring Islands.
Very different feel from other neighboring Islands. Loved it but would have stayed a day or two less (we were there for 4+ days and at tail-end of season). Many great restaurants and shops but more overall European in feel than traditional Island Greece. Very friendly people! Would say it has more of an Athens feel (on a much smaller, less crowded scale). Very easy to get around but be prepared to walk hills! Ermoupolis is an incredible place, with beautiful old buildings, and long history. Very nice places to stay, and a lot of nice restaurants to go, witth various options of food. Ermoupoli is cheaper than Paros, Naxos. You need a car or scooter to reach the beach of Kini. Taverna next to the water, shadow, nice sand, clear water, no music, friendly Greek people. Our top beach!!Guest review byJoachimGermany

Room was nice with a balcony which had a beautiful view over Ermoupolis and the Port. Was picked up by Dimitris in the port and had a short “Ermoupolis highlights” tour. Giouli and Dimitris had great tips for me to make my stay at Syros just that bit better and helped me with car rental. When I got sick and had to go to the hospital during our stay, they were very kind in helping us find the right hospital and help that I needed. The surrounding city of Ermoupolis is beautiful and authentic, without that obvious tourist touch that some cities/towns carry.
