The rooms are well equipped. My sister and I stayed in a room with twin beds with comfortable mattresses. We had clean towels, a mini fridge, shampoo and soap. There was a working air conditioning in the room which we didn’t and up using, as there was a cool breeze from the balcony. The room was clean and had a nice view from the balcony.

hydra has it's charm, not for those seeking luxury, the beauty is in the simplicity and minimalism. no cars allowed on the island, taxi boats gets you to other beaches. otherwise it's walking and relaxing.

Hydra is quite a magical place.

Hydra is quite a magical place. As there are no cars, the sounds of bells, birds and animals dominate the soundscape. Walking around the town or further afield afford wonderful views at each turn. Plenty of cafes at the front and in side streets offer a choice of delicious meals. Small supermarkets provide anything required for home catering. Mules are used to transport luggage and deliver groceries. A place to relax and de-stress if you take the time. Be prepared for lots of walking and scaling steep stairs.

Hydra is an island for total relaxation.

Hydra is an island for total relaxation. Even though there’s not a lot ‘to do’ apart from hike the hills, lie on the beaches (which are all shingle - no sand- and visit a couple of small museums) - don’t pass this island by. It’s charming, the people are genuinely friendly snd they won’t rip you off. Go there to recharge from a busy life and lap up the sunshine, the vistas and the great food found in multiple restaurants which are all no more than 15 mins walk from wherever you stay. Go people watching from a comfy lunge chair in the ports many cafes, swim in the clear turquoise sea and think of nothing more than what you’ll eat that night. Hydra isn’t the cheapest Greek island to stay on but the tranquilly, the sunshine and the people will give you a priceless experience . Oooh and the cats too !

Scenically beautiful Hydra is accessible from Athens by ferry as a day trip. Despite the number of tourist visitors, everyone we met, in cafes, tavernas, on our one long hike, was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Its narrow streets, spacious squares, well maintained buildings throughout - plus no vehicles - make for a delightful visit.

    Hydra is extraordinary. No cars!

Hydra is extraordinary. No cars! You really need a couple of days at least to settle into the island vibe and just to start to figure out how things work. I loved walking around the nooks and crannies of Hydra Port. It's like a set to a movie or something. Would've been an amazing place to play hide-n-seek as a child. If you are in need of groceries, there's a wide range in prices depending on how close to the water you are. Up and away from the water, both groceries and restaurants become considerably cheaper, catering to the locals. I prefer to see how the locals do things anyway. However, I will say that the Sunday morning I spent dining, sipping coffee, and people watching out near the water was really relaxing and special. It's a really unique destination that I can't recommend highly enough!

Hydra is a beautiful and peaceful Greek island.

Hydra is a beautiful and peaceful Greek island. No cars allowed on the island which means that it is such a peaceful and serene island to visit. I visited in early March, out of the main tourist season, which was a perfect time to visit to make the most of the peaceful and beautiful surroundings. Enough tavernas and shops were open to enjoy, and I enjoyed some lovely walks both east and west from the main town/port. Pretty port/harbour with lots to watch including boats off-loading everything from furniture and hardware, to food and necessities, and then being loaded on the main form of transport…donkeys. I ate at some great tavernas including Psaropoula (lovely harbour views), Ostria (local dishes), Psinese (great sardines), Isalto (everything), Kai Kremmidi (souvlaki), and a 20 minute walk to the west of the harbour at Kamini, Kodylenia (fish dishes with incredible sunset views).

Lovely boutique hotel in a quiet location with spacious room and good size bathroom. Huge balcony off the bedroom for having a nice cold drink in the afternoon or enjoy a morning coffee. Breakfast from 8.30 - 1030 was lovely with coffee tea, cereal, toast, jams and cold cuts. Bacon sausage and scrambled eggs are also available. in a lovely courtyard setting. Direct access to the marina and a short walk to restaurants and shops. Very helpful and friendly family business made our stay special

Hotel Miranda is a magical retreat a few minutes walk up the hill from the main port of Hydra. The staff was wonderful, our rooms were lovely, and breakfast was fresh and delicious. It was so much fun to share the narrow cobbled streets of Hydra with many cats and a few people, and watch the donkeys carry goods to homes up the hillside. Hydra is a wonderful car- and bike-free island to explore for a few days by foot!
