Visit Meteora if you wish to glimpse heaven. Centuries ago, monks decided to climb unclimbable mountains that stretch to the skies. Some settled in caves suspended in the air, within magnificent rock formations, and others built small cities in the clouds, which they dedicated to the most high and transcendent. Kalabaka is the town at the feet of Meteora, it is a traditional town of Central Greece and offers some of the tasty Greek culinary.Guest review byIvanAustria - 10.0

We loved the cleanliness, quiet and helpfulness of this establishment. The hostess was so delightful. We also used Ari as our taxi driver - +30 6958606944. He was there for us to be picked up at the train/bus and took us to the restaurant. The food at the Meteroan Panorama Restaurant was spectacular. The monasteries were unbelievable but at our mid 70s in age, the 1,000+ steps were a challenge. We stayed for 3 nights and rented a car.
We stayed for 3 nights and rented a car. It's a little difficult to get from Kalbaka to Kastriki and back again on foot--particularly if you're carrying luggage. There is a route, but I wouldn't want to walk it in the dark if I had an early or late bus into or out of town. Both Kalabaka and Kastraki are really neat, unique places and we truly enjoyed our visit to both. We stayed in Kastraki and would do so again (it's closer to the monasteries). Definitely stay at least two nights if you can, as different monasteries are open on different days. If you plan to hike, get a good map of the trails and read the reviews ahead of time.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
We drove to the great monastery.
We drove to the great monastery. We enjoyed all the great artifacts and we sat in the great hall. The town is so beautiful with great restaurants and bakeries. The town was all lit up for Christmas and children were singing. We hiked to the Holy Trinity Monastery from the Old Town Kalabaka. We also stayed in the central Kalabaka Hostel. Amazing views, amazing nature. Meteora region is a must see and Kalabaka is a nice sweet town to stay. It was a surprise for us to see there was the mushroom festival the night we arrived there. We tasted local food and fruit served free, enjoyed the concert...Guest review byÖzlem BenligilTurkey
