Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very friendly. We stayed at the apartment and it was nice and spacious. Good news for future travelers is that there will a lift soon in the building so that they don't have to carry their luggage up two floors.

The hotel was very welcoming, with a closed parking garage, nice outside terrace and large room. The garage was a great place to keep our motorcycles while there, and the hotel allowed me to conduct an engine service on their grounds. They even helped me to dispose of the used engine oil. We left some tools (a large wrench with to remove the rear-wheel of KTM 790 nuts) for the next traveller to benefit from (we had to buy one, and did not have the space to bring it along). The hotel staff does not speak English very well, but they are very kind, and try their best to help any way they can. The location is great, with a short walk to the center of the city passing by the UNESCO heritage site. Breakfast was above expectation. All in all, very happy with this stay.
The Hotel Főnix is located in the heart of the charming historic city of Pécs, offering you nicely furnished rooms and apartments with free wireless internet access.

Central lokation. The unique architecture of the hotel. Despite 2 stars, the hotel is clean, the room is clean, good breakfast for 2 stars. It was enough for 1 night in the hotel.

Breakfast was ok (low end of a 4 star hotel), scrambled eggs, sausage, some pastries, yoghurt. Nothing special but ok. Wellness was small but ok (Sauna and a small pool with water massage), it was turned on to our request. Room was clean and descent.
Staff was very kind and helpful.
For the price (35k HUF per night for a double room), good value for money

Clean, safe, parking spot was available, center city
To me, Pécs was a very positive surprise. When deciding to stop there for a rest day on a 3 week motorcycle trip around Europe, I was hoping for some urban area where I would not get bored the first hour. With no research before arriving, we went for dinner the first night, and happened upon an outdoor restaurant in the castle ruins. On the surface it looked like a tourist trap, but food, service and pricing was great. The next day we went for a walk, again without much research and explored the center of the city, a very beautiful and historically important area as we learned. We had great food in some of the many restaurants, and we visited the UNESCO Heritage ruin as well as the basilica / cathedral. All in all, I am impressed.

Pécs is a place where anyone would find something for themselves: great historical buildings, museums, a zoo, lookout towers, walking tours, etc. A lot of nice restaurants. For those loving ice cream, "Mecsek Cukrászda" at Széchenyi Square is a must.

I liked the diversity of cultures, the rich collection of paintings in the gallery's permanent exhibition, the possibility of hiking in the nearby hills, and of course the quality of the local wines.

At least 2 days are needed to explore this beautiful city - walk around the old town, visit a couple of museums, climb the hill to enjoy a view from above, and visit the Zsolnay cultural centre which is off the centre.

if you have nothing specific to do just avoid it.
if you have nothing specific to do just avoid it. The Eu attribution of cultural capital is a joke. Half of the city is empty or to sell. People earn under 5 eur / hour with prices equal Budapest.

It has been a great experience. The truth is that the hostel is a classic. old building, spacious and being in it is an original experience. everything is very well organized and safe.
Very quiet in one of the most beautiful cities I've seen in Hungary. Miss Huszar has been very kind with her tips and trying hard. in helping. thank you very much💋🌹
Hotel Barbakan is a great place to stay. We always stay here when visiting Pecs with my wife. Rooms are comfortable, and the staff is very friendly. The check-in is usually flexible, and they always make their best to accommodate us earlier if possible.
Breakfast is good with many options and good quality.
