I stayed for two nights at Hotel Lake Pichola and for two nights at Taj Fateh Prakash. Four days is good to cover the main tourist spots at Udaipur and also visit the nearby Kumbalghar fort(overall 08 hrs trip). We visited in mid Jun. The weather was very hot and not suited for travelling in open. Recommend visit Udaipur between October to March. The monsoons are also a reasonably good option i.e. Aug to Sep. Avoid visiting during Apr to July although the hotel rates are slashed to 50% during this period. The people in Rajasthan are generally helpful and honest. The city is beautiful and the palace is worth the visit. We missed South Indian and other flavours, the food has too much dairy here. One time I had a mild food poisoning after ordering palak paneer. One has to be more careful with some food during low season. The old centre is worth exploring but you have to be careful with the motor bikes. For foreign women solo travellers it is not so pleasant as women to be walking in the center due to unwanted attention from men and questions even when dressed modestly. We were glad that we decided to stretch our stay to three days in Udaipur. It’s such a special place with lots of rooftops, making it ideal for sunset/sunrise viewing. Idyllic and relaxing city in comparison to others we have been tto… Easy to get around. The city palace was as spectacular as the boat ride around lake pichola. The bats at dusk were amazinggggg. The lakes and how it is an important part of the day to day life of the locals is incredible and add the palaces and the abundance of street food venders and shops and you’ve got the perfect place! Cold beer at Sun&Moon rooftop with it’s friendly staff and music is a must and lounging at the lakeside restaurant with a cold kingfisher (which is here cheaper than sun&moon) is lovely too. You simply must try the street food from the guys opposite the hide in hotel at the bottom of chatpole bridge …. Too die for and queues from locals all afternoon and evening! Especially if you are new to the area, you could walk anywhere and not really need a rickshaw for most of the sites. The only thing is we went when it was very very hot so for some of the sites like the city Palace we took a ricksaw. It was really nice to walk to dinner and back and just get lost in the city.
