Highly recommended for the fans of the movie “the shining”!!
This student dormitory magically transforms during the summer in an expensive hotel which resembles the hotel from Stanley Cubrik’s movie “the shining”. In every step inside the building you get the feeling that Jack Nicholson is watching you and is ready to hunt you yielding an axe in his hand and take your head!!
The hotel is close enough to some places of interest which is good.
The personnel is very polite and really helpful.

Old farmhouse very comfortable and cozy. The cleanliness in rooms, toilets and kitchen is very good. The location is remote and not close to a town, which makes it a great opportunity to feel the lowlands of this region. The host is very friendly and encourages interaction between guests through the hostel features (large kitchen and gallery for eating together, library with board games and no WiFi to minimize internet surfing). Highly recommended!

Spacious & well equipped farmhouse. Kids enjoyed playing with the dogs & cats, visiting the other farm animals & playing football in the field. Hottub was a bonus too.
A nice town with plenty to do in the surrounding area.
A nice town with plenty to do in the surrounding area. During our stay, we got pizza from Askur Pizzeria, which was phenomenal, especially after a long day of travel. The main reason we chose to stay here was because we wanted to see the puffins at Borgarfjarðarhöfn, and hike the waterfall circle. Egilsstaðir was a perfect central location for us to see everything we wanted to in the area, and then some. The Netto nearby allowed us to get whatever we needed for our stay. We skipped the Vok baths, as one in our party was pregnant, and she could not enjoy the hot waters. We would definitely stay here again.

It was a peaceful place and we liked it very much.
It was a peaceful place and we liked it very much. The property was very good. I just would have liked an espresso machine. Also, the position of the bathroom is inconvenient for the people in the room next to it. The others could easily disturb them. Otherwise, everything was very pleasant.

There is so much to do here, using Egilsstadir as a base.
There is so much to do here, using Egilsstadir as a base. An absolute MUST is a soak in the VÖK Baths, a mere 2km out of town.
Day trips out to the Puffin colony at Bakkafjördur, or the very cute harbour town of Seydisfjordur, for example. A trip around to Hallormsstadur as well as further day trips north are next on our list.
We had great wood-fired pizza at Askur Pizzeria and brilliant coffees at Tehusia Hostel, which had a great buzz-y vibe.

An unusual place to be sure.
An unusual place to be sure. Not too "in yer face" , nor up it's own pipe. Just about right. Superb geolocation. Car necessary to fully appreciate the opportunity on offer. Highly recommend to independent traveller.

This was a great stopping point after driving the eastern Fjords on a Sunday. They had a couple places that were open where we could eat, get gas and groceries. This town was a nice place to stay after driving through many of the lovely villages along the coast and before heading to Husavik. You're also close to Hengifoss and not far from Studlagil Canyon, though we only drove halfway down the road before we gt nervous with the icy road right on the side of a cliff.

Very nice small luxury hotel in the woods south of Egilsstadir with views of the lake from the outdoor hot tubs and restaurant. The two hot tubs have a very pleasant temperature. Bathrobe and slippers were offered for free. Spacious, modern and stylish ground-floor rooms with terrace, a small table and desk.
Excellent breakfast, they even prepared fresh waffles and pancakes. Dinner was also great and freshly prepared in the open kitchen.
we actually had to extend for another night due to a storm shutting down large parts of iceland, but we were glad the hotel had the availability as the room was very nice, everything was clean and quiet and central, with walking distance to restaurants and supermarkets, and a helpful staff!
i had read mixed reviews somewhere else but could not confirm those, as we did not have any issues with noise, cleanliness, or the water!
Good location for shops and restaurants. Clean and great facilities. Kitchen well equipped and huge dining area. Bathroom facilities very clean and well positioned. Good communication regarding entry to hotel.
Nicest hotel in town, very commanding placement across the lake (which was frozen) and direct access from the main town.
The restaurant downstairs was phenomenal. The room was frankly huge!
