A nice hotel directly at the lake Myvatn shore, standard double room is comfortable with regular bed, good mattresses. Clean bathroom, enough space in the shower. Breakfast was phenomenal for Iceland accommodations. We had fresh waffles, variety of ham, cheese, bread (also local rye bread, which was delicious). Marinated herring, smoked fish, bacon &eggs, fruit salad, yogurt and cereals.
The hotel also has thermal baths or pool, which was available until 10 p.m. (we didn’t use it)
This hotel is quietly situated 2 km from Lake Mývatn and 30 minutes’ drive from the Godafoss Waterfall and Krafla Crater. It offers free Wi-Fi and rooms with modern furnishings.

Friendly and helpful staff, who came out after hours with spare key when we locked ourselves out!
Peaceful location with great views. Within easy driving distance to many sights/activities.
Very comfortable beds.
Enjoyed the experience of a traditional log cabin.
Great living space for a family or group of friends. Looking out of the cottage window with a coffee in the morning or evening was my favourite part.
The family-run Vogafjos Guesthouse is set in a unique natural environment on the eastern shore of Lake Myvatn. It offers rooms with a patio and free Wi-Fi.
Located within 2.6 km of Myvatn Nature Baths, Birkilauf in Myvatn has a number of amenities, including lake and mountain views.

11/10! host joanna was really excellent, she made sure that we were settled in and showed great hospitality! she had great recommendations on where to go, and also topped up the breakfast goodies for us when it was running low. the guesthouse also was really amazing - just 4 rooms and a huge living area and a very well stocked kitchen. all the kitchenware and appliances were high quality and super easy to use, and we really cooked up a feast every night because it really had everything you need! (including soy sauce for us Asians!) of the 3 nights we stayed here, we had a whole day of snow and so we just stayed in and watched tv (we really needed the downtime), and saw aurora right from the balcony one of those nights. the rooms a bit small but overall still comfortable and nice, and considering we largely hung out at the common area this really wasn't any issue.
birkilauf was HANDS DOWN our #1 accoms in iceland and i will be recommending all my friends to stay here!

Absolutely fantastic location. Exactly what we were looking for – quiet, well-equipped, and comfortable. Unfortunately, there was no longer a holder for the showerhead, so we had to hold it while showering. Great staff, smooth check-in. Thanks for our stay!

I’m 2/3 of circumnavigating Iceland, and I have to say that this area is the weirdest landscape yet—in a good way. In a small area there are extinct volcanoes, steaming hillsides, lakes with strange lava 'islands', ethereal mountains…….. so strange. So beautiful. Highly recommended.

Spent a day and a half in the Lake Mývatn area. Loved it.
Spent a day and a half in the Lake Mývatn area. Loved it. There is so much to see and do: crater hikes, thermal baths, geothermal areas, bird watching, lava features. And just overall, it has beautiful views of farms and countryside. Both relaxing and exciting. Could easily spent another couple of days without it feeling repetitive.

A "must-visit" bird-watching location in northern Iceland, with great scenery and impressive geo-thermal sites near by. Lots of way-marked walking routes around the lake and several places to get food and shopping.

It's a beautiful lava field and lake system.
It's a beautiful lava field and lake system. Old volcanos and lava flows. Dimmuborgir is a legendary place where the Yule Lads sleep through the summer. Bear in mind that the summer can have hatches of midges.
Krafla Power Station, active geothermal mud pools, Mývatn Nature Baths.
If you travel in the winter it's a great place to see the Aurora as practically no light pollution.
Obviously it's not as nice as Akureyri, but I would say that as I live there

Myvatn Lake certainly has beautiful scenery and the weather is typically warmer than the coast. For the full service/hotel travelers I would recommend Fosshotel. For campers there is plenty of accommodations.

incredible views of the lake from which we saw the Northern lights. Great shower and facilities. Breakfast was great (make your own waffles and wide selection including hot and cold buffet breakfast) and definitely recommend eating in the restaurant as well - this was some of the best food we had in Iceland and whilst it looks pricey, it's worth it. We enjoyed it more than our Michelin guide restaurant we went to in Reykjavik. Great views across the whole landscape from the hotel in all directions
Classy hotel on lake MyVatn. Comfy modern room. Nice decor in building. Upscale bar and restaurant. Wonderful breakfast. Close to many attractions around the lake.
