At first glance, the hotel looks a bit dated or shabby from the outside but The room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and everything I needed was there. Friendly and helpful receptionist at check-in. He welcomed me warmly and even gave me a free room upgrade, which was such a nice surprise.

I was disappointed in Reykjavik maybe due to my expectations. The landscape is barren with almost no trees and weather can be windy and grey even in June. It is one of the most expensive places I have traveled too and was surprised by how expensive food was and you need to like fish or lamb to eat in many places.
The people were friendly; but Infeel like I saw more American tourists than Icelanders!

Our stay in Reykjavik was awesome. Don't know how it would be in winter though. The Harper Concert Hall is sensational. Attend a performance if you can. Great food and coffee at Reykjavik Rostas on the harbor. Recommend the Reykjavik Marina-Berjaya Iceland Hotel. Perfect.

Reykjavik is a delightful small city and worth more than the one night we spent there. Like many people, we spent most of our time on the Golden circle and west to Glacier Lagoon and Hofn. We really enjoyed visiting the National museum, the harborside - lots of funky fashion outlets of local designers and eateries. During our stay there was lots of street life down the main city area. Food was expensive (is it is everywhere in Iceland!) but recommend the Arctic char, Icelandic lamb soup and the wonderful breads and pastries.

Iceland seemed overrun by visitors, especially as cruise ships were in port. Tourism is now the main source of income.
Local businesses were taking full advantage. Prices are expensive and attitudes more serious than friendly we found.
But it is a unique place, geothermally heated and continuously earthquake active.
Reykjavík is a medium sized city, well spread out, and not flat.
It is the only settlement of any size.
We did not eat out. Others told us that visitors pay double the price of locals in restaurants .

All staff we met - reception, breakfast, cleaners - all were super nice and helpful. We checked out before 4am to catch our flight which meant we couldn’t have breakfast and at the time of checking out we were pointed to the table where coffee and warm croissants were waiting for us - that was so kind.
The hotel is environmentally friendly.
Location - close to the city center and just next to the bus stop 12 - one of the pick up points for the tours and for the airport transfer.
If we get back to Reykjavik, we will get back to this hotel.

I've stayed at this hotel multiple times and to me, it's the best hotel in Reykjavik. Every time I visit the city, I try to stay here.
This time we were upgraded to a bigger room with views to Mt. Esja. The beds are still the thing I rave the most about when I talk about this hotel with friends. Our friends who came with us to Reykjavik all stayed here and everyone loved it. Highly recommend.
