The location is excellent. The restaurant offers a view of the red church, and across the road is a gas station, a supermarket and a popular black pizza shop

The staff is awesome, and the breakfast is exceptional. I like that it was outside the city a little but still close to everything.

I stayed there for two nights when one would’ve more than sufficed. Other than walking on the beach or hiking up to the church, there really wasn’t much to do there except go to expensive restaurants. They did have a nice big grocery store there that was in a small complex that included the Icewear store.(the Icelandic clothing line)

We especially enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, the black sand beaches, and the dramatic coastal views. One small local place serving soups was absolutely wonderful — the perfect stop for a warm, delicious meal after a windy day.
The town is small but cozy, with everything you need — a few restaurants, gas stations, and grocery stores.
It’s a great base for exploring nearby sights like Reynisfjara Beach and Dyrhólaey.
Overall, Vík is a great stop for travelers looking for unique landscapes and a calm, authentic Icelandic vibe.
Highly recommended!

Basic place but some amazing things to see / explore / do.
Basic place but some amazing things to see / explore / do. Good eating options, but as normal with Iceland, super expensive. Black Crust Pizza was cool. So was the Soup Place in same place as Lava Show. If we had more time, we would have tried the town pub + other places to eat.

Great little charming town in the middle of nowhere. close to Dyrholaey, the Black Sand Beach and many waterfalls and glaciers. Excellent base for southern coast. Has everything you need including a few great restaurants, grocery store, liquor store(very expensive), and store for outdoor wear if you need it.

How can one come to Iceland and not stay in Vik?
How can one come to Iceland and not stay in Vik? We had a fabulous dinner at a restaraunt that was in an old white building, like a house, cannot remember the name. We had a delicious bread basket with fresh butter, pesto, and a red aioli. Dinner was trout and arctic char that was caught locally. For dessert we shared an amazing apple pie that had a tiny bit of crunchy morsels in the streusel topping with a side of ice cream. It was top notch.

The black sand beach was amazing but other than that and it being a convenient stop for folk visiting the glacial lagoon and diamond beach, we preferred other locations in Iceland.
The area along Route 1 is quite commercial with a large hotel and apartments, a shopping complex and a gas station. Unfortunately the guesthouse we booked into was sub-par and we were so keen to leave we didn't venture into "old Vic", so can't really comment on that part of the town.
Of the places we stayed in Iceland, Vic was our least favourite in terms of access to other key attractions in the area, but we were there in September in some questionable weather so can't really comment on hiking opportunities or anything.
It has been for us the best accommodation in our trip around Iceland. The apartment is new and cozy and very well equipped. If someday we come back, we will not hesitate to stay here again. It provides self check in modality which is great to have more flexibility and it's not far from Vik and some of the popular spots.
Location is perfect: quiet but also very close to Vik and Black Beach. Room is spacious and has a lot of storage space for the luggage. The parking is just at the door of your room which is perfect in rainy weather (that is very often in Iceland).
Hotel is in the town of Vik, the black beach, shops and some restaurants are in walking distance, it is an advantage when yuo are heading east from Reikjavik. Very friendly and helpful staff, giving the advices about Iceland.
I used restaurant in hotel for dinner and breakfast. Both of it was so tasty. It was good opportunity to enjoy Iceland food and beer. Grocery store was close to the hotel. Front desk was kind and gentle.
Great hotel in perfect location in Vik. Great facilities and superb breakfast to get you started in the morning. Would strongly recommend to anyone travelling around Iceland
