Hugging the Ligurian coastline, Genoa boasts Europe’s largest old town and Italy’s largest seaport. As birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.
By the old port (Porto Antico) are several bars and restaurants serving the local speciality – pesto. Other Genoese favourites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade – Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighbourhood, where colourful boats bob up and down.
The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.
South is the old town with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.
As you approach Genova Airport look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the ‘Superb City’. Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodation, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.

Genoa was a wonderful surprise — I really enjoyed both the city itself and its atmosphere. What made the experience even better was how easy it was to reach amazing places like Cinque Terre, Portofino, and other charming towns by train from there. It's a great base for exploring the Ligurian coast!

Easy city to walk around, streets a little dirty but a lovely relaxing place to visit. Plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. Metro was a little outdated, no contactless payment but still a reasonable service.

We loved the walkability of the city and the outdoor restaurants. We also loved how dog-friendly the city is and would love to return with our small dog. The weather was wonderful and we enjoyed the hop on hop off bus. The people were very friendly as well.

Genova was a very diverse city, with lots to do and see.
Genova was a very diverse city, with lots to do and see. It had a bit of everything, scenery , history, beautiful architecture, beaches, shops, good restaurants. The aquarium was amazing, as was the harbour, which was very vibrant , and great for a stroll round.
It is quite a hilly city, with lots of steps at times, however this just added to the uniqueness of the place.

We had quite a bit of baggage wasn’t far to walk but awkward with bags etc , only a short walk from the private car park just down road but a bag drop off area would be good and on first night there we struggled with entrance door code so we were lucky that a worker was leaving and allowed us in or I think we may have bn locked out x bigger sign at car park entrance has well has we sailed past it first time round and with it being one way we had to go round again and a arrow with what direction the hotel was would of helped has I was having to use google maps to locate what direction hotel was in on leaving car park . Pen and paper in room would be good to write code down has my phone went dead and luckily I’d forward email to hubby with door codes etc x apart from that pleasant stay

The hotel is very well positioned right next to the main train station which makes it a very good base to start exploring the zone. And here I mean Cinque Terre as well as Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli. It is also within walking range to the Acquarium and touristic port. The breakfast has multiple choices and the best caffee I ever had in a hotel in Italy at breakfast. The air conditioning worked like a charm and it was very efficient.
Francesca was an amazing host who thought of everything you'd need while travelling in Italy. She gave us recommendations, clean facilities (she cleaned our room every day we stayed), comfy bed, beautiful views, air conditioning and the property was right by the port but also so close to the main city square. We did not need to taxi or anything. Everything was within walking distance.
We liked the room it was really cleaned and comfortable. The stuff from hotel was nice and helped us with parking the car on other site of the street since parking place is a bit small. Hotel is located only 20min to aquarium.
Friendly host, a bottle of sparkling vine in the fridge by arrival. Location near beach, (Spiaggia Sturla), walking distance to Vernazzola Beach and restaurants and the local Coop food store. Two separate bathrooms
I actually received un upgrade to Grand Hotel Savoia, historical building next the train station. The room was confortable and clean. Amazing views from the rooftop.
