If you are in Pisa then the first stop is probably to snap a memorable picture of the famous Leaning Tower. Arrive early and you just might get a chance for a solo shoot! Go beyond this legendary experience and discover a maze of ancient cathedrals, buildings and squares in this historic town.
From the Pisa Centrale Train Station, the 30-minute walk to the Campo dei Miracoli is along a pedestrianised street packed with shops and restaurants. If you head outside the touristy area you will start to uncover the atmosphere created from the some 60,000 students who study here.
Appreciate masterful art at Museo di San Matteo and Romanesque architecture at the San Paolo a Ripa d'Arno, San Michele in Borgo and San Paolo Churches. While 'timed tickets' in Florene are a work of fiction, in Pisa, a 3.30 ticket means you get let in at 3.30. People chilled in the shadow of the Baptist tower, and all in all a much more relaxing experience than Florence. If you're choosing between Pisa and Florence, do Pisa. You can do it all in one day, but better to take two, so you can do the wall walk, the botanical gardens and perhaps a town museum as well. Take time between each attraction to let it sink in. Great little place for a city break.
Great little place for a city break. The whole place is walkable. I loved the Tower and the Piazza dei Miracoli. Walking the ancient city walls is really recommendable as is the Arsenali Medicei with ancient ships of Pisa. For exhibitions the Blue Palace - Palazzo Blu is worth a visit. Pisa is so much more than just the Leaning Tower, although the Piazza dei Miracoli is undeniably impressive. The city has a charming atmosphere and is easy to explore on foot. Stunning architecture, elegant shops, wonderful cuisine… what more could you want for an Italian weekend?
