Kobe is a great city to visit. A vibrant, buzzing and cosmopolitan city with memorable features such as the ropeway to the herb garden at the JR Shin Kobe Station at Sannomiya (an absolute must for visitors), the Maya cable car and ropeway and the Akashi bridge to Awaji Island.

Kobe is known for Kobe Beef.
Kobe is known for Kobe Beef. Unfortunately this highly priced wagyu is exported to 5 star hotels, top restaurants in Kyoto and Tokyo, or overseas. Sad that many of the wagyu restaurants are not serving the famed high-end Kobe wagyu.
It is busy metropolis, but less crowded than nearby Osaka. As the city is built on hills and mountains, the local hiking culture and sudden panoramic views are both delights.
There is not much in terms of local culture or cuisine, besides some western influence as shown in the architecture of few buildings and an abundance of pâtissiers.

There's a lot more here to see than I thought - in particular the harbour area offers a lot of interesting variety. The Port Tower is excellent, offering great views, especially at sunset, and the revolving bar is not as expensive as you might think such a facility would be. The boat trips from the harbour look good, but we didn't have time to go on one. Also not to be missed is the "ropeway" (cable car) up to the Nunobiki herb garden and the subsequent lovely walk back down, including spectacular waterfalls.

Kobe was full of surprises. so many shopping places. Port Kobe was beautiful at night and pretty darn good in daylight too. A visit to Herb gardensw via the ropeway is a must. Close enough to Arimaonsen for a day trip. And Rokko island is worth a visit as well as Mt Rokko via ropeway. A few days isn’t enough to explore all Kobe has to offer!!

A bustlilng, busy city. Plenty of food choices and sights. A visit to Nunobiki Herb Garden is a highlight. Walking to and within Kobe port area is very enjoyable. Kobe Chinatown is busy, bustling and a must-visit area. Shopping is also exceptional. Kobe can also be used as a hub for day trips to Kyoto, Osaka and Nara. Kobe should be at the top of any Visit Japan list, outside of Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.

Kobe is a very nice city to be visited, with good and clean environment. It is very easy to get around Kobe by taking its Subway or JR. It has a lot of shops and a lot of good restaurants. Ladies can also go to the area where it has a lot of International Brands stores for shopping.

Wonderful onsen/spa/hotel. You feel like you are in an ‘80-s James Bond film (in the good sense of the word) mixed with Japanese style and some Italian Alpes feeling in autumn. Room was excellent, onsen as well. Arima Onsen town is not too much to do but why bother? Enjoy the spectacular view of the room, or a tea in the study room, or one of the many books to read, or - naturally - the fantastic 9 course dinner.
Very nice hotel. The rooms are quite large for Japan and have a bench by the window, which I thought was great. The bathroom is well equipped. The mattresses are comfortable. The breakfast buffet is quite varied with Asian dishes, fruits, breads, cereals and much more. From the hotel, you can easily explore Kobe on foot.
I know and use the Okura often wehn in Japan. I was a fitmess membe at their hotel and, of course the service and attitude was alway perfect. The Kobe Okurr is not very central but has a decent view onto the harbour or the Roko mountain, if you are on high floor. Quyality of food is good.
Excellent dinner and breakfast. Very good onsen. Recommended for those who enjoy classic Japanese ryokan hotels. Due to the dense development there is not enough privacy and connection with nature that you would expect from the best ryokan hotels in onsen villages.
well-staffed to help when required, usually 3 staff at the same time, good location, 3 mins walk from Kobe station, value for money about SGD 95 per night, large TV but limited channels all Japanese
