I'm a fussy eater so the buffet offering was not up to my standard, but most hotels here are the same, so they were no worse.
I ordered a separate order of scrambled eggs with bacon. The eggs were runny and the bacon was nearly raw, there was so much uncooked fat!
My second morning I went to a restaurant on the strip - no problem.

Location is great. Rooms are pretty good and the beds, as far as I can tell, are comfortable. Our room had a pretty nice view to the street so I could take a look to my car whenever I needed (yeah, small parking lot and full vacancies). I could not hear other guests at all.

Honestly not sure why Veracruz makes the guidebooks.
Honestly not sure why Veracruz makes the guidebooks. The centro is probably only 20% occupied with most of the buildings crumbling, the malecon isn't anything to write home about (and doesn't have much of a street food scene despite suggestions otherwise), and food prices seemed high and I wasn't overly impressed by any of my meals.
I found previous stop Orizaba and (even moreso) subsequent stop Coatepec far more enjoyable and worthwhile and if I could do it over again I'd skip Veracruz and spend more time in Coatepec and the other small towns around Xalapa in Mexico's zona cafetera, which is one of the prettiest areas I've been in Mexico and did have some great food that lived up to the reputation of Veracruz state on that front.

Veracruz is a beautiful city combining a blend of beautiful beaches and boardwalk and the older central historic section is wonderful. Restaurants are plentiful and with large variety of fares.
The weather each time I have come is excellent (November/December)!
I'm a meat and potatoes man so I eat in more roadhouses/wing joints, etc. I have eaten in Italian restaurant in historic district. Excellent.
Taxis are very cheap! a big plus...
I enjoy walking so I take in a lot of the city.

The city of Veracruz is has a very small historic centre which was under major renovation when we were there. Weather is very hot and humid so it is virtually impossible to do anything after mid day until 4:00 pm.

Veracruz the state has plenty to offer.
Veracruz the state has plenty to offer. When searching for accommodation in the city of Veracruz it is best to search Heroica Veracruz.
This is the cleanest city I have visited in all of Mexico and it is easy to take the bus that runs along the Malecon to other parts of the city (Boca de Rio, Plaza las Americas and other beaches)
Very pleased I decided to come here from Mexico City with a rideshare app.
Oh yes I must mention Veracruz is a coffee destination,

Hotel Lois is a FULL SERVICE hotel that seems to attract a lot of young families.
The entire staff is very accommodating, friendly yet professional.
Ms GUADALUPE IS EXCELLENT!!
Fresh linens and a made KING-SIZE bed every day.
Clean towels everyday.
Two bottles of drinking water everyday.
There are two strong WiFi networks.
The staff is constantly cleaning and refreshing everywhere.
Even the pool is cleaned everyday.
A huge breakfast buffet and supper is offered every day.
There is a special evening buffet with live music on weekends.
If You’re looking for alternatives to their buffets, there is an abundance of excellent dining options within walking distance. Even at age 71 with arthritic ankles, I enjoyed dining at several local restaurants. In fact, I drove My automobile to Hotel Lois, but never needed it. Besides, there is a corral of available taxis at the entrance, should You need their service. Personally, I enjoyed my daily walk along the gulf coast waterfront.
Job well done Hotel Lois staff!!
I’m looking forward to a return visit in 2024!!

Hot and Gritty port city filled with mildewed 1950's office blocks , center of town is nice and entertaining , with great restaurants and live music everywhere , the Malecon is fun , to see ships and browse hundreds of stalls selling Kitschy souvenirs ...seafood is excellent , must try Fish Verecruzana local dish...boys dive for coins tossed in water , rather disconcerting as the water can not possible be healthy....great for visit in historical context , but one must feel some pity for day to day inhabitants...dirtiest city in Mexico

The whole hotel is worn out. Furniture in the room was old and partly broken. Also there's only few of the furniture in the room, no wardrobe or so, even though the room is spacious.
Stains and holes on bed linen and towels.
There's a plastic foil on the mattress, so the sleeping is uncomfortable.
Sewage smell in bathroom, dirty windows. No good restaurants nearby, also the closest beach is terrible.
Pros:
The staff was kind and helpful. Strong stream of hot water all time. A la carte breakfast was okayish. Everyday cleaning.
location is good, very centrally located. They clean the room everyday, quite thoroughly, although I often ask not to change bedsheets. the bath towel is quite worn out, but they are clean. Hotel is very basic, but overall the price says everything. With large window and bright, although facing the wall. There’s a super polleria 1 block away, must try. Staff are nice
