Was loud and echoing from outside the room. Had to put a towel under door as there is a gap. It was a Tuesday and the restaurant was not open so no dinner service.

Some great cafes near the Octagon, our favourite is The Corner Store cafe in Stuart St. Fantastic food at the cafe inside the Ebb Hotel also. Drive out past Port Chalmers and the restaurant there, the Carey's Bay Historic hotel does a fantastic lunch. Drive out to Aramoana after lunch; a desolate, haunted but beautiful place. The Esplanade cafe at St Clairs beach does incredible pizzas after a walk on the beach. Emerson's brewery is always a fave, and Balmac number 7 and Harbvourside are excellent restaurants, Balmac number 7 more upmarket, both with great food.

We loved the beautiful buildings especially the Railway station. The Settlers museum was absolutely exceptional and also free Being so interesting and this museum is large so you need a good few hours to explore it, in short my wife and I loved our visit there.

The Tiaieri Gorge Train trip sensational value, Museum excellent, train station impressive,Lanarch castle lovely but I suspect Olveston House would have been worth a look too, The high drive to Lanarch Castle then down to drive along Portobello Rd glorious

Great location, easy walk to the octagon with some great resturants. We enjoyed visiting beaches on the penninsular and also breaking out some moves at the Town Hall with SuperGroove. Botanical gardens were lovely and walking the streets to view the murals was a good work out!

Dunedin is a great city to explore, and the people are very warm and friendly. I did not have a strict plan for my visit other than including a stop at Baldwin Street (the steepest street in the world) which was fun to climb, and so I happened upon some great street art and murals, the Botanic Gardens and arboretum, great eateries, the cathedrals, Speight's brewery and Saint Clair beach. I was surprised by the hilly nature of the city, but it was a walkable city.

We liked Dunedin, especially the area around the hills and university, the city belt walk is great , lovely parks and bush , right next to the city . Some good museums. The train journey to Taieri Gorge is fantastic , lots of quirky and historic buildings, as well a nice city centre .the downside is poor parking , lots of one way streets and also, the best bits are VERY hilly , best to use buses if your don't want to wear yourself out . Get to know the portions of the supermarkets before you attempt to go shopping if self catering as the city centre unite confusing until you get used to it.

The room did have it's own 'old hotel' charms, beds were comfortable, decent restaurant and a cosy bar. Excellent location in Dunedin with the centre of town just a few minutes' easy walk away, and equally as close to attractions such as the historic train station and art centre, and the settler museum. Hotel staff are pleasant and helpful. The cost was right for us as we were budgeting strictly at that point.
