Oamaru is a total hidden gem! I wish we'd stayed longer. VERY cool historic precinct, and town. Beautiful architecture. Lovely town, the locals were friendly and it was easy to navigate around. The Lookout is worth a visit, as is the historic precinct of course. The town has all the necessary supermarkets and Farmers department store, as well as a good selection of Op Shops. Loved how quiet it was, traffic wise, compared to larger towns and cities. Gorgeous historical buildings and houses. On the road that goes down to the penguin colony is an un-used wharf/jetty with hundreds of shags (birds) - just amazing and a great subject if you like photographing wildlife.
