Very good option for Bora Bora if you don't want a fancy resort on a motu.
The host did a great job helping us with everything and even gave us sunscreen for our lagoon trip.
You just need to know that it is a 30 min walk to the town with the market and restaurants so it is best to have a car or scooter available.

Basically everything. Please do note though that this Booking site both contains the Moana and the Sunset Hill premises as well. The Moana is near the ocean, in Sunset Hill (which we had rented) lies 100 m farther - no big deal. Do note also that the downstairs rooms can get quite humid easily, so the air conditioner is a welcome thing. But besides that, this is THE bang for buck thing if you do not want to spend all your money on overwater bungalows. The most important thing, and I think, an advantage, is that since you are at the heart of Vaitape, you REALLY experience Bora Bora - not what a big hotel chain presents you as Bora Bora. AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCE. Shops, foodtrucks, pharmacy is easily reachable. But the best thing is that your hosts take you THERE AND BACK to Matira beach - which, put it simply, is the greates beach on Planet Earth :) If you plan to save money by making your meals for yourself, and get in touch with real Bora Bora, think no more about your accomodation - you've just found it. You can use the private dock at Moana - it is deep, deep blue, but we saw our first wishes - wonderful ones! - here. So basically you get a private lagoone connection, too.
Located in Bora Bora, within 5.4 km of Mount Otemanu, Villa Kahaia Bora Bora offers accommodation with air conditioning. This property offers access to a terrace, free private parking and free WiFi.

Biking around the island was the right approach.
Biking around the island was the right approach. Really no need for a rental car.
We really liked eating at the Roulottes (food trucks), excellent seafood (the poisson cru is to die for!). Note that portions are large - we learned after the first time and starting sharing one portion; more than enough food for 2-3 people.
We also found getting meals from the supermarket was a good way to go. They have a number of cold meals prepared (including excellent sashimi).
Can recommend doing at least one lagoon tour. Snorkling is some of the best we have ever done.

Bora Bora itself is a bit of a dive.
Bora Bora itself is a bit of a dive. Their saving grace is that the water is amazing on a good day. Not much to see or do on the land. Infrastructure is really poor. The boat ride to and from the airport is a highlight. Clearly the government is not supporting this area's infrastructure which will in turn support the locals in providing for tourism and for themselves. Roading and facilities are run down and in poor condition. All the action is on the water. Vaitape is the main village and even that is not much. Just really expensive/overpriced tourist shops. The little market inside at the boat terminal is quite good but only take cash, and the Tahitian busking band playing outside the market is great. It was absolutely pouring with rain the day we arrived, so we lost a whole day due to bad weather. Actually, it wasn't even that warm when it did fine up. We rescheduled the back end of our holiday to stay in Bora Bora an extra day to hopefully get some good weather and do something on the water.

Bora Bora is beautiful!
Bora Bora is beautiful! It works best for those who are into serious water activities, romantic getaways or just relaxation. It’s more remote and void of hustle and bustle. Peaceful, quiet and beautiful, that’s it. Great food. It doesn’t need to be expensive if you plan well.

Bora Bora is rightly considered one of the most beautiful places in the world, it is stunning! I though that it might be a bit touristy and gimmicky, but it was not the case, it felt very authentic when out and about. One thing to be prepared for is that it is quite busy, especially around the the main town area Vaitape, which is unseal in the Islands, but overall a beautiful spot with beautiful people and beautiful culture.

Highly recommend Bora Bora, especially, the "Bora Bora by Land and Sea: 4WD Safari and Snorkle tour - best thing we did (swim with sting rays, friendly black tipped sharks and beautiful fish of the corals. 4WD took us around the whole island including accessing very steep 4x4 roads to get us to a high vantage point/look out). Download the 'Get Your Guide' for more tours, pricing and availability. Great location. Polynesian people as a whole are very friendly and welcoming. Hope to return one day.
