Koh Tao is easy to get around with if you can ride a scooter...
Koh Tao is easy to get around with if you can ride a scooter. Most of the restaurant can make a delicious food and fresh. It would be a paradise for divers, plenty dive sites around and easy to get there with a cheap price. If you not diving, then hiking is a good choice as well. Loved koh Tao. Very small island with lots of nice locals and plenty of tourists who are mostly there as backpackers or scuba diving training. I was neither of these and was simple there for a vacation. Had a great time here! Best food options. Didn’t have anything bad! First visit to any of Thailand's Islands and we thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Quite the journey day flying from Bangkok's DMK to Suratthani City, transfer to the Sura Tthani Lomprayah High Speed Catamaran service, bus ride to the ferry and ferry ride with stops at two other islands on the way to Ko Tao. Your mileage may vary. A knowledgeable traveler may be able to find a more efficient way to get to Ko Tao. The cost of living may be higher on the islands, but it's still very affordable for most visiting tourists. We enjoyed exploring restaurants and found some nice places to eat. Also did some dives with Crystal Diving, near the Mai Head Pier - nice folks. We ended up on the 'speed boat' back to Surat Thani - not for the feint of heart. <grin> Large speed boat, something like 50 Pax, sitting on bench seats with backs, wearing life preservers and bouncing all the way back. Got us back to Surat Thani in good time. If you're prone to motion sickness take Bonine/Dramamine/meclazine BEFORE the trip leaves - you're going to want it.Guest review byJohnUnited States - 10.0

Koh Tao is my favourite island I visited in Thailand! It's small so you can see most 'sights' in 2-3 days but I'd recommend staying longer to enjoying the wonderful beaches, diving and the slow way of living there. I stayed longer than I planned to do a scuba diving course which is this island's speciality - the marine life there is incredible. It's very vegan/ vegetarian friendly, full of young people and there is also great night life, if that's something you're into. It's very easily avoided if not. Everyone I met has been super friendly and as a woman, I always felt safe. A few spots I'd recommend are Ao Leuk beach, the John-Suwan hike and the two beaches around it and Sai Nuan beach (saw my first baby reef sharks there!)Guest review byStella BonovaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Bit of a journey to get to, but personally I would stay in the south of the island and get out of the busy town. We never explored the north due to lack of time but if your looking for a slower, more island vibe the south and the hotels around Freedom Beach were dreamy.Guest review byMeganAustralia

The beach area is perfect, with pool, bar, cheap massages, and a barbeque on the beach with fire show. We had the deluxe room and it was very nice with outside terrace. Location is also 10/10, in the mid of Sairee beach. The hotel has taxi boats for 300 baht round trip to Koh Nangyuan. Also free transfer to pier. Waking up every morning to the most blissful view was just relaxing as the name of the hotel suggests. The rooms were exactly what you need not more; for the price, it was sufficient. This is not a 5 stat resort, but it's the best 3 stars we've visited. The island is so small that a trip to the center took 8 minutes on the bike. The rooms are large enough. The balconies have a nice place to sit and enjoy the view. My room was on the seaside and the strip provided much livelyness.
