The Undiscovered Asian Capital
Capital of the Republic of China (commonly known as Taiwan), huge Taipei is surrounded by mountains. Taipei 101, once the world’s tallest building, dominates its skyline from Xinyi, an area known for the most active nightlife.
At Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall the national flag is raised every morning and the guard changed every hour. Less known for tourists is National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, containing a tall bronze statue of the country’s founding father.
Of the wealth of Taipei museums, the best are Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines and the National Palace Museum – one of world’s largest collections of Chinese artifacts. Even more numerous are the temples dedicated to Buddhist, Taoist and Chinese folk religions. Xinsheng South Road is nicknamed ‘Road to Heaven’ for its sheer number, but most famous is Longshan Temple in Wanhua, the oldest district.
Taipei shopping is fantastic and includes Core Pacific Living Mall, supposedly Asia’s largest. The Ximending area has lots of shops (and karaoke), while the Shilin Night Market should not be missed. For a break from the bustle head to central Daan Forest Park, the botanical gardens with its lotus ponds,or Yangmingshan National Park, known for hot spring baths and spring cherry blossom.

Taipei is an underrated destination. There is too much food to try and not enough stomach room. It is a very clean city and the people are very considerate and friendly. There are a lot shopping options, sightseeing and street food to keep you busy. The city is relatively modern and clean. Everything seems to work, excellent affordable transport network making it easy to get around. Good Restaurants and friendly people. Participated in the World Masters Games, so my leisure time was limited. Taipei is an amazing city.
Taipei is an amazing city. It has a unique atmosphere and offers the best of East Asia. One truly feels human here and can experience a completely different world than what they are used to in Europe. A big positive is that it’s easy and safe to find good food. I never had trouble finding something to eat, no matter where I was. Of course, some dishes were unacceptable to me, but that’s part of the travel experience. I have a positive opinion of the transportation. The metro is excellently organized. Buses, on the other hand, are noticeably less convenient. I often used taxis, which are reliable and fairly affordable. Taipei offers many interesting opportunities, such as technology hubs, cultural and historical landmarks, and stunning nature. You definitely must visit the Taipei 101 skyscraper, including the top floor. The Palace Museum, memorials, and temples are also unforgettable. I like the vibe of the city.
I like the vibe of the city. People were super nice, and very very helpful. almost everyone can speak English and try to help you whenever you need or ask. Due to my official schedule I could not see much but I visited few memorials and Taipei 101 observatory. It was very good experience. The public transport is very efficient and easy to understand for tourist. all stops apart from their local names are numbered, making them easy to remember, and understanding where your location is. Food is also good. You can find both cheap and expensive food and both are good. TIP: Always carry an umbrella, either its raining or its too hot to have some shulterGuest review bySumairaGermany
