I had a truly pleasant breakfast experience at Al Minar Hotel. The selection was fresh, satisfying, and thoughtfully presented. What made it even more enjoyable was the genuine kindness and attentiveness of Pamela, whose warm and welcoming attitude made me feel right at home. I would also like to express my appreciation to the General Manager, whose helpfulness and valuable advice throughout my stay made a real difference. Al Minar Hotel exceeded my expectations — a combination of comfort, care, and excellent hospitality that I would gladly recommend.

Bed mattress is not comfy. There is elevator and need to climb the multiple staircases to go to your bedroom. Mosquitos in dining hall. Location is not good as you are far from the center of tourist shoppings and hangout places.

I have travelled to Zanzibar many times in the past and are in the throes of producing a highly personalised photographic book of Stone Town and the island as a whole. I have no doubt that this will lead potentially into dedicated Destination Management in conjunction with hoteliers, tour guides and the like on the island. Wish me luck as Zanzibar has so much to offer.

I am a white female solo traveller.
I am a white female solo traveller. It's not the best place for this group of travellers, or I should have bought some local outfit with a headscarf, it helps. It's not dangerous, but the "beach boys" are an annoying phenomenon in this area. Hiring a local guide or driver is a good idea. Or rent a car to explore the island.
You must bargain especially in the markets and it's useful to learn a few basic expressions in Swahili.
Be prepared for the squat toilet!

Stone town was rambling streets of cobblestone with alot of history. It was vibrant and cultural. The City Fish Market was one of the best restaurants ever for fresh seafood right on the water front. Despite the constant hawkers, it felt safe in the city and the people were helpful.

It’s a beautiful busy old city.
It’s a beautiful busy old city. Lots of places of interest and many shops and restaurants around. We enjoyed our short time visiting. We took an interesting walking tour which helped us to cover the highlights of Stonetown. We spent the rest of our time on the island staying on the beach on the NE and SW sides. It is really hot in Stonetowm so we were glad we didn’t stay long.

We loved how small and walkable it was.
We loved how small and walkable it was. The narrow alleys are fun to explore. The walking tour was excellent foe giving us the lay of the land and some excellent historical contact. We felt very safe walking around at night. Street vendors are assertive and persistent, but we found saying no politely yet firmly was enough.
