Everything was perfect. The room was very clean, well furnished, and appliances were well functioning. Beds were very comfortable, I had a really good night sleep notwithstanding the air raid alarms. The bathroom was spacious, well organised, and clean. There is a little fridge that one can use to store beverages or food and an empty glass bottle to use to refill with the water from the hot/cold water dispenser in the corridor. Staff is very nice and offers information to make your stay very pleasant The location is about 1.3 km from the main railway station, in the city centre. There is a restaurant and a underground shelter to go to during air raids. A water boiler to make some tea or coffee in the room could add to the comfort. Other than that, It was just perfect.

One of Eastern Europe’s oldest cities and the Ukrainian capital, Kiev is a hospitable city with plenty to offer: from its historical heritage to inspiring architecture and modern commerce centres. So jump on Kiev’s impressive metro and enjoy the ride!
The city features many places of worship with golden-domed and cave monasteries, orthodox churches and cathedrals. The most famous ones include the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, one of Ukraine’s most important monasteries and founded in 1077 by St Antoniy. The other is St Sophia’s Cathedral housing the world’s largest collection of frescoes and mosaics from the 11th century onwards.
Kiev is not only known for its sacred buildings; it is also very rich in the people’s history. Over 40 different museums are visited by millions of guests every year. It includes the Museum of the Great Patriotic War with a stunning, more than 100 metres high monument of Mother Motherland.
After a day of sightseeing, make sure you visit local bars and restaurants for a selection of Ukrainian cuisine: the delicious Borscht, pancake-like Mlyntsi or the unique Kvas, which is a brewed bread drink.
Whether you’re flying to Boryspil International or Zhulyany airports, the centre of Kiev is just a short ride away. With over 280 properties on offer, Booking.com has a selection of apartments and hotels near the airport and in the centre.

If you listen to the media, you'd think that the whole city was a burning ruin.
NONSENSE.
It's profoundly normal for the most part. I call it "punctuated normality": everything happens as usual but occasionally the shit hits the fan and you just hunker down for a little while, then go back about your affairs. Kind of like a passing thunderstorm. And yes lightning strikes, but it's entirely random, and statistically your changes are extremely low of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I feel far more danger when driving on any American freeway.
Objectively, the greatest risk on a day-to-day basis is being hit by youngsters riding scooters and electric bike on sidewalks. I call them terrorists.
Rush hour traffic is maddening, the supermarket shelves are always stocked to the brim, shopping malls are crowded, the nightlife is very active, I can't think of a service that I need that I can't get.

Kyiv is a wonderful, vibrant city; as a solo traveller one can spend a few days covering the iconic sights. I could spend hours looking over the city from the SkyPark. The cathedrals and monuments are suitably grand. The memorials to the fallen are thought provoking. There is even a beach (Central Beach). I sampled some wonderful restaurants (eg. Tres Francais). With a local friend as guide the city opens up with many more fascinating places to see and experience. I have visited before and will be back.

It's very odd to be offered to rate the place where I lived for 15 years. I will try.
It's a beautiful and very old city which history has thousands of years - beautiful any time of the year. It all depends what you need - we have parks, old churches, museums, nice coffee, friendly service, top-class medicine (much better than any other European country can offer you) and top-class beauty and cosmetology service (also much better than you can find elsewhere). You can go to rafting on Dnipro or to barbecue in the centre of the Capital or can use Kyiv as a starting point to discover Ukraine.
It's a shame we have to fight for our life with our north neighbour - again.
I am sincerely and heartfully grateful to our Army, ZSU, for protecting us and for making my stay in Kyiv peaceful.

Kyiv is a city full of history, culture, and vibrant energy. The architecture is stunning, with beautiful historical landmarks like St. Sophia’s Cathedral and the Golden Gates, alongside modern structures that blend seamlessly into the skyline. The city is alive with green spaces like the picturesque Mariinsky Park and the expansive VDNH, perfect for relaxing or taking a stroll. The food scene is incredible, from cozy cafés offering delicious Ukrainian dishes to high-end restaurants with innovative cuisine. The people are warm and welcoming, always ready to share the beauty of their city. With a mix of tradition and progress, Kyiv is not just the capital of Ukraine, but one of the best cities on earth.

I ended up staying for 10 weeks.
I ended up staying for 10 weeks. I love and admire the people of Kyiv. But, in October-December 2024, you do have to get used to regular air-raid sirens. Make sure to get multiple apps on your phone, to let you know 1. When the electricity will be off in your apartment, 2. When an air-raid siren is in effect, and 3. The details of the air-raid, including type and location of the threat. The first two of these are apps, which anyone can show you. The last one is various channels on Telegram.
Kyiv also has wonderful bookstores. Almost all will let you sit for hours enjoying cappuccino, pastries, snacks, and even books. ;-)

Beautiful city under siege.
Beautiful city under siege. Very walkable, although there are a lot of hills so make sure you're fit enough and have comfortable walking shoes. Excellent food scene, and very strong coffee culture. If traditional slavic food is your thing, you'll be in heaven (unfortunately I'm not, so had to seek out Tex-Mex and Asian flavors). Some people know some English, so be prepared to do a lot of hand gestures and sign language. For the most part, they are friendly and approachable, but if you need help (with directions or food), approach a younger person as they tend to speak English more so than the older ones.
