FAQs about hotels in Atlanta

Peachy City of Historic Importance

Home to the world’s busiest airport and a vibrant arts scene, Atlanta has an important role in US history. The gateway to the American South, it's home to barbecue and hundreds of peach trees that make it a surprisingly green city.

Hartsfield-Jackson Airport is the main arrival point, and Booking.com has an excellent range of Atlanta hotels near the airport. However, the main sights are clustered around Downtown. Near the gold-domed Georgia State Capitol is Underground Atlanta, a shopping center at the former downtown street level.

Just north are a few hotels near Georgia Dome, a huge sports venue, and to its northeast is Centennial Olympic Park, commemorating the 1996 Olympic Games. On one edge of this park are the CNN headquarters with behind-the-scenes tours. Across the street is the New World of Coca-Cola where you can sample all their worldwide products. Next door is the massive Georgia Aquarium, the world’s largest indoor aquarium.

In the Auburn district is Martin Luther King, Jr.’s former home and church, and a museum dedicated to him and the Civil Rights movement. A few blocks south in Grant Park is the city zoo, and the Atlanta Cyclorama and museum, detailing the city’s Civil War battles.

More national history is in the Carter Center, and the former home of Margaret Mitchell, author of "Gone with the Wind.

The last time I was in Atlanta was almost 15 years ago.

The last time I was in Atlanta was almost 15 years ago. The food scene has much to offer, there is a vibrancy to the city that had not existed, the MART (city transit train) was much better than I was expecting (although there are some sketch people hanging around the stations), many vineyards and beautiful country side/towns (such as Dahlonega) within an easy drive. Although most tourists visit the Coca Cola Museum and the fabulous aquarium, not sure how many know about the Atlanta Botantical Gardens. If you have not been and you enjoy gardens, it is an absolutely delightful place to visit...especially on a Thursday when they have music starting at 5PM. Had a wonderful dinner at their restaurant, too. Was so pleasantly surprised by how much Atlanta has to offer!

Let’s start with the good, plenty of places to eat and shop.

Let’s start with the good, plenty of places to eat and shop. The Georgia Aquarium is a cool place to see, the Coke Cola world is neat, but for me it’s a one and done. Truist park is a great ball park to visit and enjoy game! The bad, traffic!!!!

Atlanta is clearly a vibrant city and a popular tourist...

Atlanta is clearly a vibrant city and a popular tourist destination, but during our visit, I couldn't help but notice the significant presence of individuals experiencing homelessness, particularly in the downtown Peachtree area. Many appeared to be struggling with mental health challenges, and it was truly heartbreaking to witness. As a society, we must do more to provide support, resources, and compassionate care for those in need. My thoughts and prayers are with the city of Atlanta and all those working to bring hope and help to its most vulnerable residents. During our stay, we had the opportunity to dine at a new place called Hunger AF. While the name may be surprising, the food was absolutely delicious and made for a memorable experience. Some of our favorite spots included the Georgia Aquarium and the Botanical Gardens both of which my daughters thoroughly enjoyed. These attractions were highlights of our trip and added so much joy to our weekend getaway. Overall, we had a wonderful time creating memories together, and I’m grateful for the experience.

Atlanta can be a great place to visit.

Atlanta can be a great place to visit. This is a 'sprawling' city - and just like other cities that stretch far and wide, the more you pre-plan, the better chances that your experience will be a good one. Unsurprisingly, vehicle traffic in all areas of the city is heavy and can cause delay. The 'MARTA' system in Atlanta has both rails (the subway) and buses - so as part of pre-planning, check to see if your stops are on the MARTA lines. The rides on MARTA are cheap and the 'Breeze' cards are easy to obtain either before or during your trip. Generally speaking, the city is policed well in tourist areas; it's pretty safe for walking in very-public areas that have restaurants and bars. [Note: walking out at night in unpopular areas is not a good idea.] Finding food and drinks is easy in the downtown area...lots of good choices to explore.

Atlanta is a very busy and aggressive city.

Atlanta is a very busy and aggressive city. I’m from New Orleans so for me to say that is a lot. People are rather rude especially when driving. There are alot of sketchy places around downtown. Parking downtown is absolutely horrible. The crackhead and homeless people are very aggressive.

    We went for the weekend.

We went for the weekend. We enjoyed the zoo, aquarium, World of Coke and a Braves game. The hotel was about 10 miles from downtown Atlanta but a quick walk to the Braves game. It was a fun weekend getaway. Atlanta traffic is not my favorite but is doable.

There was no breakfast, we made our own. The motel provides a microwave, refrigerator, and coffeemaker. Great beds, and the place was very quiet at night. The big advantage of this place is its excellent location near downtown Atlanta attractions, and the rates were much lower than other hotels in the area.
