FAQs about hotels in Washington

A World Icon

Boasting many national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.

Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.

If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.

DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guest house booked through Booking.com.

Loved all the museums I visited and Union Station. Was able to get around easily using the Metro. Unfortunately we were disappointed by almost every restaurant we ate at. Definitely don't go to DC for the food.

A beautiful city with a European feel.

A beautiful city with a European feel. Great for bikes and walking, Very green, with creeks running around it. Free museums including the zoo - It felt safe - although lots of police presence around White House and Capital Hill. Historic Georgetown with its cobbled streets and rabbits! was a surprise, lots of places to go to escape the heat. My favourite US City by far

My wife and I had a great time visiting DC but as always, wish we could have stayed longer. We learned to utilize the ebikes and escooters and it really helped with utilizing the amount of time we had to get to locations. The one thing that would be better is increased numbers of ebikes and escooters and better maintenance of them. We encountered difficulty in finding them and occasions where we rented out scooters with flat tires and mechanical problems. Another negative aspect of our trip was the constant odor of people smoking marijuana. We smelled the stinky weed at a large number of locations we visited and it was unpleasant and reflected poorly on our nation's capital.

I traveled from San Francisco to DC to attend the June 6 Veterans United For America Rally on the National Mall. ... The METRO system was FANTASTIC! One of the best and most memorable parts of my DC experience was chatting with a METRO "Gallery Space" worker whilst coming (from DCA to my Dupont Circle destination) and then later (returning to DCA for my flight home to SFO). This gentlemen was EMBLEMATIC of most all of my encounters with DC "folk" in the course of my visit. ... I 'll be back. ... Thank you, DC! ... PS Taxation without representation? What's up with that!

I love D.C. for the museums and that it is the seat of our government. Of course, the traffic is terrible and GPS doesn't really work when getting close the the Mall area. Parking is at a premium and almost everything is paid street parking. Taxi or Uber is the way to get around if you can afford the extra cost. So pack your patience when visiting. P.S. When booking a hotel room, be sure to check out the cost of parking at the hotel. The rates can vary from hotel to hotel.

Such a clean, well layed out city.

Such a clean, well layed out city. At the heart of government, it has lots to offer if you are interested in politics, the history of democracy and the memorials of presidents who are so pivotal in America’s development. On top of that, high quality restaurants offering great food in great ambiences with super friendly service.

The room and house overall are quaint. Very clean. The bed is very comfortable. The breakfast is simple and adequate -- i enjoyed it. Note that this is a bed and breakfast outfit so it is more personal and less lavish than a business hotel. The location is good as I was at the Washington Hilton for a conference. I like the AdMo neighbourhood and it was convenient walking down 20th Street to the government buildings and George Washington University. It was also an easy transfer to Dulles airport from the nearby Dupont Circle metro.

Great hotel in a great location. A few minutes walk from Union Station and 2 minutes from the metro. Food options nearby and they were fine with us eatingin the lobby spaces. Really helpful staff. Great atmosphere and spaces. Not a big room but well designed, quiet and comfortable. We've booked another stay when we return ti Washington and got it much cheaper booking further in advance.

Everything. The apartment was picture perfect. It was very clean and the host has small nick nacks that made the apartment cosy and homely. Importantly, the apartment was located near Metro (Eastern Market), so moving around DC was easy and relatively cheap. The area was quite safe. The host was friendly and very responsive. Highly recommended. Would book again when I am in DC.
