The Pokolbin region is scenic in autumn. My favourite places were: MaCaffery's Estate wine and cheese tasting. It was very good value compared to some other well known wine tastings which provided only wines and charged $10 more for their wine tasting. Hunter Belle Cheeses are delicious. The Ben Ean patisserie bakes their own products on site (usually sold out just after lunch). The mixed fruit tart not only looked good, it was delicious. There's a lovely courtyard which overlooks the Lindeman vineyards and the staff are friendly. The hotel seems to have been recently renovated, and all the facilities exceeded our expectations. The coffee machine was a great bonus! It’s an ideal choice for family trips, and its location makes visiting nearby wineries very convenient. Situated right in the heart of Maitland, the hotel is surrounded by shopping, dining, and leisure options. The riverside walkway was perfect for morning and evening dog walks. I soon learnt NOT to try booking a Cab (4990 1111) at night - very busy and no response; early morning was v good and quick; had a good, obliging Cab driver to and from the CC. Muswellbrook tend to be my home town soon. A lot of activities for the kids around the town: parks, playgrounds even there is a ten pin bowling and cinema. It is a bit unexpected to be so community focused for a small rural town. Good restaurants are available: Indian, Thai, Chinese cousins and of course traditional Aussie pubs. We visited Scone for the Horse Festival, to watch the horse parade and other activities at White Park over our 2 day stay. We particularly enjoyed watching the international farrier competition & the American cutting horse demonstration. A friendly quiet place to stay, with noisy traffic movement now redirected to the bypass. There are many other activities on offer during the above festival weeks, especially if you are into all things horsey. As well as other attractions in the area. The RSL Club across from our accommodation has very good facilities with an excellent Chinese restaurant. The property does not deserve a 8.1 rating. Could not use the shower or the air conditioner due to there below poor condition, including foul smell. Beds were terrible.
