FAQs about hotels in Sauerland
Something For All Outdoor Lovers
The peaceful and rural Sauerland lies across the south-east part of Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia and spreads on both sides of the region’s 2 major rivers: the Ruhr and Lenne. With over 30,000 km of marked hiking trails, and plenty of ski and water sports facilities, the Sauerland is a dreamland for the outdoor sports lover.
Not only does the region have an abundance of mountain biking routes, it also features the famous bobsleigh track in Winterberg and ski jump arena at Willingen. All that adds to Sauerland being the most popular tourist region in this part of Germany.
Though most of this region is sparsely inhabited, it still has some picturesque cities and villages to visit and in which to enjoy some local cuisine and beer. Germany’s largest privately owned brewery, Warsteiner, is located in one of them - Warstein. Other bigger cities include Iserlohn, Ludenscheid and Arnsberg.
This old industrial region is recently showing its new, more nature-friendly face. Due to its densely forested landscape, Sauerland has been chosen as the first place in this part of Europe to reintroduce the Wisent, also called the European bison.
Whether you’re looking for a hotel in Willingen or a guest house in Winterberg, Booking.com offers more than 400 properties for your perfect Sauerland holiday.

It is more touristic than I thought, a bit overcrowded for my taste. One reason to not take the cable car up the mountain. If you like crowds and lots of restaurants you're at the right place. We had a good meal in Willingen. We went to the hang bridge (Sky walk) nearby, we visited the Dimeltalsperre and we went shopping in Winterberg.Guest review byJohn+MarleenNetherlands - 10.0
Winterberg exceeded expectations.
Winterberg exceeded expectations. One believes that you would need to go to Switzerland or Austria to have a great ski holiday, but the truth is a short 4 hour drive from the middle of the Netherlands you are in a place where as a beginner skier you have everything you might want! There might be more challenging slopes, but I did not attempt those this time around, I will surely be back again to see more..Guest review byJacoNetherlands - 10.0

A charming pictoresque town with very friendly people.
A charming pictoresque town with very friendly people. We had a delicious dinner in a brewery and by coincidence managed to go to a concert in a church. Also the thermal spa in a neighbouring town is certainly worthy of a visit.Guest review bySilvieNetherlands - 10.0

The room was very spacious. the staff very friendly and helpful. The food was good and plentiful and it is a buffet style and it is topped up quickly when anything runs low. there were 2 choices for payment of the buffet one includes just food and the next is food and all your wine and beer which is good value. There is also a swimming pool sauna and these were clean. We were a party of 16 and hired the bowling alley, it was 15 euros an hour so not much between us and it was great fun. The bus stop is at the bottom of the drive and the bus ride about 15 mins into Schmallenberg which has many shops, cafes and restaurants.Guest review byCharlieUnited Kingdom - 8.0

The city as such was not very impressive (at least for us) but the walks around the lake were great. On a sunny day people were sunbathing and swimming in the lake, alongside different boat sports. The area is very green, peaceful and pleasant. There are plenty of nice walks and you can really enjoy the tranquility of the countryside. We dined at Xavier Ranch (close to Meschede) and Geronimo (at Mohnesee) and both were really excellent.Guest review byKrassimira - 8.0
Willingen is a nice village located in stunning nature.
Willingen is a nice village located in stunning nature. But it nevertheless became a hotspot for stag and hen parties and the likes. If you're looking for a calm and quiet place you need to come in Novembre or February. But if you - like we did - are keen to combine outdoor sports with a vibrant nightlife you've come to the right spot.Guest review byJoachimGermany - 10.0

Soest was a lovely town to stay in and explore. Enjoyed the walk around the tree-lined historic city wall, the pedestrian-only shopping streets, the churches, and the central plaza was a perfect place to stop for a beer.Guest review byglenCanada
