From here, you can use a bus to reach Kiato, Corinth and Athens very cheaply. It is a beautiful town with nice monuments and ancient traditions. Pleasant city, active nightlife, many shops and excellent cuisine. From the Gulf of Patra you enter the Peloponnese. It is the right place to start a trip to Greece if you arrive by ferry from Italy, either with your own vehicle or simply on foot.Guest review byGiovanni RemondiniItaly - 4.0
The town is a tourist base.
The town is a tourist base. Not particularly interesting or pleasant. We only went for the railway trip, but unfortunately it was cancelled on the two days we were there, due to falling rocks on the line. This doesn't happen very often apparently...we were just unlucky. There are cave lakes to visit but we didn't do that. The car journey to the town is wonderful both ways - from Dimitsana and Diakopto.Guest review byRosieUnited Kingdom - 6.0

The place is not to heavy on tourists, they and we mainly come for the Vouraiko train (must see!). It would have been great to have known upfront that the seats on the train are not many so booking is necessary.Guest review bySonjaNetherlands - 10.0
The area along the water is quaint and lovely.
The area along the water is quaint and lovely. Beautiful for walking. Note that cafes are open during the day but dinner options, most restaurants do not open until 7:30 or 8 or even later. The scenery is stunning as was the drive there.Guest review byKatinaGreece - 10.0
Everything was very good and closely spaced with each other.
Everything was very good and closely spaced with each other. The weather was good and the sea was clean with very beautiful and well rounded pebbles. Super market and various food establishments were in an 100 meter radious. Very easy to walk, shop and dine without using any transportation.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Rio, a serene coastal town, is peacefully situated 8...
Rio, a serene coastal town, is peacefully situated 8 kilometres northeast of Patras in western Greece. Cradled at the base of Mount Panachaikon and gasing over the Gulf of Corinth, Rio offers a tranquil haven, blending natural beauty, historical significance, and modern amenities. The Rio-Antirrio Bridge, a symbol of modern engineering, is one of the town's most iconic landmarks. As one of the longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges, it elegantly connects the Peloponnese peninsula with mainland Greece. Its construction is a testament to human ingenuity and it offers stunning views, especially at sunset, making it a must-see for history enthusiasts. Rio is renowned for its inviting beaches, where visitors can indulge in swimming, sunbathing, and various water sports in the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea. The town also proudly hosts the Castle of Rio, a historic fortress with a rich 15th-century legacy that has significantly shaped the region's history. Staying in Rio offers a peaceful retreat from the city of Patras, with the added advantage of being close enough to enjoy its vibrant nightlife, shopping, and cultural attractions. The town provides a range of accommodations, from comfortable hotels to cosy apartments, and traditional tavernas serving mouthwatering Greek cuisine, ensuring a delightful stay for every visitor. Additionally, Rio is home to parts of the University of Patras and its hospital, contributing to a lively academic atmosphere. Its strategic location makes it an excellent base for exploring the wider region, including trips to archaeological sites like Delphi and Olympia and picturesque coastal towns. Whether you're seeking relaxation by the sea, a taste of Greek history, or a convenient hub for regional exploration, Rio provides an inviting destination that caters to various interests.Guest review byGeorges LOGOBelgium - 8.0
Comfortable bed, large closet with room for luggage.
Comfortable bed, large closet with room for luggage. Strong and reliable wifi signal. Good breakfast, and dinner was delicious. Helpful and friendly staff. No separate area for smokers in common area, and spiral stairs to upper floors are steep rise/run.Guest review byAdventuresWithSweetTartUnited States - 10.0

Kalogria is amazing to spend time at the beach or relaxing in the woods walking around and even visiting Olympia and other archaeological sites like the Toichos Dymaion as well as the limnothalasses (lagunas) and hills. There are fruits and herbs to pick everywhere.Guest review byAndreBelgium - 8.0

Patra has some great archaeological sites & a castle but don't visit on a Tuesday as they are closed all day. It was easy to walk where I wanted to. There were lots of buses but I didn't have time to find out where you could travel to. So for those who don't want to walk I'm sure public transport could be an option. There were many bars & cafes. Interesting street & shops. You are close to the port if you wish to get a ferry to somewhere.Guest review byBrendaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Lovely town with wide spaces, friendly people and some compelling history attached to it from the Holocaust and the Greek Independence . Great meal at a local restaurant that was delicious and very traditional. Unfortunately it is difficult to get around without a car and taxis are way too expensive. To get to Ayia Lavra which is 4 kms away they wanted 20 euro up and back. In the end we didn't go to any monastery. They should have buses that go up and back, at least during the tourist seasonGuest review byHelen
