A nice town with plenty to do in the surrounding area.
A nice town with plenty to do in the surrounding area. During our stay, we got pizza from Askur Pizzeria, which was phenomenal, especially after a long day of travel. The main reason we chose to stay here was because we wanted to see the puffins at Borgarfjarðarhöfn, and hike the waterfall circle. Egilsstaðir was a perfect central location for us to see everything we wanted to in the area, and then some. The Netto nearby allowed us to get whatever we needed for our stay. We skipped the Vok baths, as one in our party was pregnant, and she could not enjoy the hot waters. We would definitely stay here again.Guest review byMatt - Review score

It is a beautiful secluded town in Eastfjords filled with colorful houses. Serene and quiet surrounded by beautiful mountains. We wish we had more time to visit artisan galleries. Unfortunately we arrived late evening and art studios were closed.Guest review byAnonymousEstonia - Review score

Firstly - the road to the area has recently been sealed and is EXCELLENT. Many older reviews mention the horrid mountain gravel track that is no more (and it would have been bad especially in inclement weather). There are a huge number of hikes from a few hours long to a few days that can be done in the area and if you really want to explore and get the most out if it stay a few days at least, especially if the weather turns. I did see a little camp ground and there are several accomodation options. For the photographers and bird watchers out there there is plenty to keep you occupied. And no review is complete without mentioning the puffins :-) They are a few (4 or 5?) km from town proper There is parking up top with a cafe (I did not go in but hubby did as he was cold and sick of puffins - he said it was average to say the least but did have wifi) a short set of stairs down to the little harbour then a short set up on the puffin cliff. If someone is a bit immobile then you can drive (but not park) then down to the second set of stairs. The stairs are a bit narrow and have two wooden walkways up top. I have been to many different bird areas and puffin cliffs and this is simply the most accessible and easy to view, especially for small children/elderly as there is very little effort required in getting to the location and there are burrow within 50cm of the board walk in some cases, on all sides. There is a sheltered bird hide at the end of one walkway. Note there are also Elders breeding here and a vast array of sea birds flying past at al times with feed for their young. Everyone seemed very respectful of others with moving aside to let people pass on the narrow stairs (as there are great vantage points from there)Guest review byAnnaAustralia - Review score
I love this little town.
I love this little town. To me, it is a perfect stop for a night if you are driving the entire ring road. That area from Djupivogur to Höfn, and just beyond in either direction is some of THE prettiest landscapes in Iceland, in my opinion.Guest review byKateIceland - Review score

It is unusual to find a place that has a still quietness with great beauty. Sitting on the porch, I could only hear the wind and birds. My teenage grandkids loved it too. They were disappointed that we only planned to stay one night. We would definitely stay here again.Guest review byAnnetteUnited States - Review score
Our one-night stop turned into two due to a heavy storm.
Our one-night stop turned into two due to a heavy storm. The hotel handled the situation very amenably. Good food in the hotel and also at the café and village shop in Breiddalsvik itself, which is about 5 km away. Fantastic scenery all round. Motor museum and brewery in the village with the opportunity to go for horse rides directly from the hotel.Guest review bycolinhamGermany - Review score
An Unbelievable Gem at an Unbeatable Price!
An Unbelievable Gem at an Unbeatable Price! I was initially drawn in by the incredibly affordable rates, which led me to expect a rather basic lodging and dining experience. To my absolute delight, I couldn't have been more mistaken. The room I stayed in was nothing short of fantastic, and the restaurant left me in awe. The staff, without exception, was both incredibly helpful and genuinely friendly. However, the real gem here is the owner, who boasts an impressive depth of knowledge about the local wildlife. Every one of my numerous questions was met with boundless enthusiasm and a wealth of expertise. It's safe to say that I'm eagerly anticipating a return trip, set for the upcoming summer or fall season, in pursuit of a memorable fishing adventure. This place exceeded my expectations on every level, and I can't wait to experience it all over again.Guest review byThomas - Review score

The Hallormsstaður area is on a beautiful lake with the largest forest in Iceland nearby. Several significant waterfalls, including the 420 ft. Hengifoss, are minutes away by car. And yet the area is just 15 minutes from Egilstaðir and all its city amenities. Really an ideal location for exploring Eastern Iceland!Guest review byJoyceUnited States - Review score

It was a peaceful place and we liked it very much. The property was very good. I just would have liked an espresso machine. Also, the position of the bathroom is inconvenient for the people in the room next to it. The others could easily disturb them. Otherwise, everything was very pleasant.Guest review byGalinaCyprus - Review score
