My recent stay at Hotel Boutique Sol y Luna SPA was an absolute pleasure. From the moment we stepped through the door, the professional yet friendly staff made us feel welcome. Highlights of the hotel are the on-site spa, outdoor pool and restaurant. We indulged in a couple's massage that left us feeling rejuvenated. We also enjoyed the included breakfast, as well as other meals in the onsight restaurant.

We were welcomed graciously by the owner and Luis. (We had been through a tough time when we arrived and they just welcomed us with open arms.). The property is beautiful with an incredible view from most every room. The food was the best we had while in Ajijic. You can't go wrong staying here.

The grounds were beautiful and a nice view of the lake from the pool. We did not use the pool as most people using it just went in with their regular clothes and not bathing suits. The maid service was excellent. All in all a positive experience except that maintenance of the rooms needs some attention. Our terrace door handle was loose and did not seal well. Even with trying to use the dead bolt at the top, it would rattle during the night. Wall maintenance and small repairs would have made the room more pleasant.

The town is very quaint with numerous typically Mexican shops, restaurants and artesanias (handcraft). The Tuesday and Wednesday markets were wonderful and we found the Mexican people generally very friendly and helpful. This was our second visit to Ajijic and we would certainly recommend it as a first choice for anyone wanting to experience village life not too far from Guadalajara.

Chapala is a nice and very relaxed town right at the lake with the same name! It has a supermarket, but also a nice local market with fresh fruit and vegetables. Considering that the area is very popular with tourists it isn't overly touristy. The local population is still very present in every day life. Prices are still reasonable! And people are still nice and friendly!

Jocotepec is a small traditional Mexican town on the shores...

Jocotepec is a small traditional Mexican town on the shores of Lake Chapala. There are some stores along the main highway. The central square in the town is classically Mexican, with some charm. The neighborhoods that comprise the town are old and rundown, and the housing we saw for residents reminds one that not all of us have beautiful homes, backyards and pools. You can learn a lot about how people live and have a better appreciation for your lot in life.

Our vacation was spent entirely with a family who lives in Ocotlan. We felt safe and enjoyed everything except the mosquitoes.. that is something to prepare for because of that river, prepare for that. Some family members left with a lot of bites on our legs and arms. Food was great and the plaza area was nice with a lot of different food to enjoy.

We were visiting friends who recently moved to Ajijic from the USA. It’s a very lovely quiet town. Lot’s of ex-pats there is a huge ex-pat facility with tons of activities and information to make the transition fairly smooth. We found it a bit too quiet. The lake is beautiful but unfortunately it is not swimmable. But I could imagine kayaking or paddle boarding would be great. Very few boats. Beautiful Malecón with a number of restaurants overlooking the lake. We felt very safe. Super convenient with large grocery stores and everything else you might need. Easy walkable and driving. Great restaurants.

    We liked Chapala.

We liked Chapala. In our opinion, it had a better feel than Ajijic, which we stayed in before and visited again this trip. There was a central market right across the road from our lodging and it was a convenient source of fresh fruit and veggies. There was also good fresh bread, cheese and a variety of meat. There were some good restaurants in town but the open air chicken & chips place (50m to the left after exiting the hotel) made us sick, so we couldn't recommend it.
