We recently stayed at Tatum, and it was perfect for our needs. The location was super convenient for our event, making everything stress-free. The price was reasonable, especially considering the new, modern amenities. Plus, the beautiful surroundings added such a relaxing vibe to our stay. Highly recommend for anyone looking for comfort and convenience!

Palmerston North, known to other New Zealanders as 'Palmy'...

Palmerston North, known to other New Zealanders as 'Palmy' in a mildly disparaging way, is a surprising inland city. One striking thing is that nearly every street is tree-lined, with a range of beautiful mature trees. (Would be nice if more of them were native species though). This is because the local council has undergrounded all the services. Parks are great. One has an impressive miniature railway which kids love to ride (even if their parents/grandparents look a bit overscaled!) Massey University is in a beautiful setting, like a botanical garden, with many interesting buildings. I was there on a site visit as architect of the two major bridges on the soon-to-open Te Ara a Turanga 4-lane highway, SH3, which reconnects Palmerston North with Wairarapa/Hawkes Bay, after the old highway through the Manawatu Gorge had to be abandoned in 2017. The bridges and the shared walking/cycling path over the Tararuas is sure to become another tourist attraction in itself.

I really like Whanganui & have visited often.

I really like Whanganui & have visited often. The city centre is lovely & there aren't food shops all over the place. This time I bought stuff from the supermarket to eat but I know some of the cafes are good. There should be a register of decent New Zealanders who respect motels so that they are looked after properly when they book for a visit. Some of the reviews appear to be vetted to show only good stuff. Unfortunately, the motels I know are good are usually booked out. There are now 2 in Whanganui I won't be going back to.

Liked the cleanliness, staff being friendly and parking as well as the location. Loved the fireplace. Bad experience second night in restaurant. Had to wait 2 and half hours to eat. Not many special dietary choices and no microwave to bring own GF food. Pity that overseas tourists get top treatment and locals get second class treatment.

    Lots of activities for families.

Lots of activities for families. We visited the Dinosaur Museum in Raetihi, Smash Palace in Horopito, hired bikes from Ohakune and the family biked to The Junction and back. Did the Mangawhero Forest Walk, took 4 year old grandson but it did take us a lot longer than an hour, probably 1.5 to 2 hours. The Carrot Adventure Park is awesome! Caters for all ages of children including adults! It was a bit harder to figure out where to go for a meal - but we enjoyed Mountain Kebabs for a cheaper takeaway meal and Osteria for a comfortable and Cosy family sit down meal.

The management is chaotic. I lost my ski poles. It took me an hour to find them among three girls. I found that all their equipment was someone else's. I was shocked. There were too many novices. My friend's child was hit three times in one day. It was really dangerous.

Unfortunately the unit we stayed in was infested with ants which were in the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. We awoke to find them in our beds and crawling all over us. Most unpleasant experience. I advised the manager but he didn't really apologise and I believe he was aware of the situation. His response was that he would need to get a pest controller in. I felt he didn't believe us, but we showed the cleaners and they were shockewd.

My baby and I stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed everything about Waiouru. We were at the Oasis motel which is across the road from the Z gas station and next to a Diner, bakery, bar & bottle store which breaks off from the motel but still far away from the rooms. A bit secluded but love how everything’s so close and the nice cold weather.
