I booked a room at the Andres Hotel, mainly because of a train ride. I was thinking of going for one day from PANAMA CITY to Colon, by train with the Panama Canal Train. Unfortunately, I found out that this train is inactive since the Corona. If the train ride is not yet available, Or if you are not going to visit around Colon, and are not interested in the duty free zone, then you can skip Colon. I was warned by the locals, to be careful If you decide to visit Colon, stay at the ANDRES HotelGuest review byEliahuIsrael - Review score

The town of Portobelo is small and worth about an hour to see the black Christ in the church and few forts that are around. It's better to stay on the outskirts in one of the beach hotels. Most have restaurants.Guest review byJosephUnited States - Review score

We rented mountain bikes from Gamboa Bikes for the days we were in Gamboa. This gave us the flexibility to bike both the Pipeline and Plantation Roads, both of which were wonderful for both hiking and biking (although the Pipeline Rd was a bit bumpier).Guest review byTracyNew Zealand - Review score
It should be called Isla Grande de Basura.
It should be called Isla Grande de Basura. It's off-putting to have breakfast on the wharf and watch the trash float by. The "beach" & sidewalk that goes the length of the island is lined with trash: cans, bottles, styrofoam, paper wrappers, candy wrappers, etc. Making the slightest request of the Cocotal staff was met with a glance of contempt. The room had only one chair, no table, the shower was nothing more than a dribble; and there was no hot water. Everyone on the island seems to be hard of hearing as the ghetto blasters were at full volume. The parking over on the mainland is run by extortionists. We agreed to pay for two nights parking, when we went to pick up our van they insisted that we pay for a third night and they locked us in the parking area until we called the police!Guest review bymwstebbinsUnited States - Review score
The view from the room was great.
The view from the room was great. The beach was dirty and the pool was to cold, could not enjoy it because of it. The building was clean and the room was nice as well. Clean the beach area and warm the pool water.it would be a much better experience.Guest review byAbelardoUnited States - Review score

Colon is not a nice city and I cannot recommend it to others. I felt very threatened there. It is dirty and noise, huge amounts of litter everywhere. Huge numbers of homeless and mentally ill people living on the street. I could not find anything to visit. There are very few restaurants that cater for tourists. I just wanted to leave.Guest review byBigJockUnited Kingdom - Review score

Portobelo is an ideal destination for a long weekend trip on your journey through Panama. The towns are very simple, however what we liked most was the people and the authenticity of the region. You cannot miss the nice beaches and beautiful places like "Isla Mamey", "Isla Grande", "Playa Blanca", "Venas Azules"Guest review byfamgambinSwitzerland - Review score
Enjoyed staying there for three days .
Enjoyed staying there for three days . Took most of the tours offered . The river tour was the best . Don’t expect to see a lot of wildlife as advertised . The resort itself is an old one and very tired looking . They need to do a major facelift . The food is acceptable . Room was also very tired looking . Pool area is great . When booking tours , the staff didn’t seem to be competent . They didn’t charge us when we booked the lift tour and we almost didn’t make it !Guest review bySamUnited States - Review score

Many of the restaurants and hotels on the island was closed when we were there (around christmas). Also it was very much trash on the street and everywhere around the hotel. We went there with the intention to surf a bit but there was no board rentals and the break did not look good at all. The beach was very nice but a lot of trash as soon as you left the hotel areas. One night or a day trip would have been enough. The restaurant La Isla was amazing, fast service, great food, nice location.Guest review byAnnaSweden - Review score
Colon is a great city, the one I was born in.
Colon is a great city, the one I was born in. Although a little rundown in some areas, mainly the center, the outskirt of the city has a better appearance. Overall, the people are very warm and appreciate visitors coming into their city .Guest review byHILMAUnited States
