We should have called the farm manager from Barrydale, because when we arrived at the locked farm gate, we found there was no reception. We couldn't reach him, and it was soon getting dark, so we had to keep driving until we got signal again, which only took five minutes. Wann, the manager, was soon there and opened the gate to paradise for us... remote, behind two other farms, we were able to spend comfortable days in this Karoo resort. Wann was always available, and one evening his wife cooked us a delicious meal. A river, a hot tub, an ice bath, peace and quiet, and an endless sky—what more could you want? This is the place to be for anyone needing a break. For more romance, under the stars, bring candles and reading lamps.Guest review byIsabellaSouth Africa - Review score

From the main road it looks like just another dusty deserted Karoo town. What a pleasant surprise on turning off into the little town. We had a superb breakfast at @Stuff and met some interesting locals. The town is experiencing a resurgence and is intersting, well maintained and spotlessly clean.Guest review byRobynSouth Africa - Review score

Although right on a small district road, the cottage is quiet and well appointed. The hosts are super welcoming, friendly and helpful, and put in effort to make a stay enjoyable and relaxing. Perfect for a family of 4, or 2 couples. There is a nature reserve a kilometre down the road, and we enjoyed a drive through it. Plathuis is 5 km off the R62, so it it really a peaceful place.Guest review bySeanSouth Africa - Review score

The mountains provide a scenic backdrop to this Klein Karoo town and the opportunity of recreation for the adventurous visitor. If you go during the summer, there's also plenty of delicious fresh produce available. The town also boasts some beautiful Victorian architecture, which is best appreciated on foot.Guest review byFrancoisSouth Africa - Review score

I loved everything about the place... it was just what I expected of the Karoo and more! We loved the little pool that gets cleaned out after each visit, and the water is used on their garden. I loved the fact that there was no light pollution as I wanted to enjoy the night sky and that they're totally off the grid and pretty much self sufficient. The hosts were super helpful, friendly and generous. I also liked the old worldliness of the experience yet it was totally comfortable too! I recommended the nightlife as in peace and stars!Guest review byTamaraSouth Africa - Review score

We didn't really stay in the village but I wish we had booked longer to stay at the lodge. I would definitely like to go back when temperatures are a bit cooler so I can do the hikes they offer during the day. The landscape there is amazing!Guest review byAnSouth Africa
