Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyThe hostel is really great. It is in a nice neighborhood. It is well connected by trams and buses to the rest of the city. The rooms and the bathrooms are very clean. The staff are wonderful. The bed is king size and the key for the locker is provided. The kitchen is well-furnished with all kinds of cutleries, utensils, a microwave and burners as well as a huge fridge. The property provides an eight swiss franks buffet breakfast for those who wish it, which is great value when you look at the prices of coffee shops. I really enjoyed my stay and will definitely go back.

United KingdomThis was my third visit and as before my (private) room was spacious and elegant. However this time my room was on the road side, which meant the trams were very audible if warm weather necessitated keeping the windows open (otherwise effectively double glazed). On my 2nd visit I discovered a lift, but currently it can only be used for downward movement! The staff are all kind and flexible with a warm customer-friendly manner. The location is 15 mins walk from the Swiss/French railway station (SBB) and a direct bus ride (#30) from the Badische Bahnhof (DB). The Basel guest card is EXTREMELY good value - free trams and buses, and half price to all the main museums and the zoo! (Bonus: if you have a private room, a good sized towel is provided and you don't have to make up your own bed - unlike in the hostel I stayed at in Freiburg!)

Czech RepublicI came quiet late and find making your own bed without lights quiet difficult, specially when the sheet doesn't fit to the mattress. I don't know why I even need to make this? Shouldn't the bed be ready?
I go amazing spacious bed, very comfortable. Very easy and fast self check in when you come late.

I had a pleasant stay at this hostel. Value for money is excellent. Location is very convenient, bus and tram station are close. Friendly stuff. I would highly recommend this hostel to solo travellers.

United StatesNot the best communal kitchen. Missing the bare minimum like, salt, pepper, sugar and oil that other hostels have. Not very social, would be nice if they offered events to meet other guests. Also the person at the reception could have done a better job letting us know about the hostel and surrounding area.
Great location, great beds, a lot of natural light in the rooms and facilities

CroatiaThere are no sockets by the bed. Likewise, the lockers are not next to the bed, so it happens that someone wakes you up in the middle of the night because they are using their locker next to your bed. Wi-fi signal is not good everywhere in the hostel, especially in my room.
The staff was very friendly. There is enough space in the rooms for everyone, and each bed comes with a corresponding locker that you can lock with a key. Within the hostel there is a shared kitchen with everything you might need to use. There was always hot water for showering. The hostel is about 15 minutes away from the train station, and there is a bus stop across the road. Upon arrival, you receive a Basel card with which you can travel for free in certain zones.

Czech RepublicOptional breakfast feels pricey (8 CHF), can get better deal in Coop Restaurant nearby.
Extra wide (double) bed in the dorm - not your usual bed. Very stylish interior. Great location, like 10 mins walk from main train station. Local brewery literally next door.

TurkeyThere was a kids-group booking which I HATED! They were extremely crowded, noisy and rude! The facility did not help with it really, considering me and my other roommates had noise complaints at various times in the day. Also, the water boilers in the kitchen were both really dirty (burnt really, should be renewed by the facility)
BED!!! There was a free option to get a double bed for one person! Loved it. I liked the room setup too. The location was comfortable and easy to access via various lines of trams available. Definitely met my expectations with its lower prices compared to rest of Switzerland. Free coffee and tea whenever was nice.

United KingdomOnly there one night but in that short time didn't find anything I didn't like.
Although the hostel is of industrial decor, which can feel cold, there is lovely extras that some other hostels do not offer eg free hot drinks/water, soap & paper towels supplied. It's kindness such as these which marks a hostel out from the rest in my opinion. The kitchen was an added bonus. As arriving after 9pm, I expected to use a pin code to get my key, but a staff member was working late so it was nice to deal with him. Basel public transport is excellent & drop off is very close-I found street view very helpful to know where to go in the dark. The Central train station is approx 15 mins walk away and that's close to the beautiful old city.

ChinaWall are not the most soundproof, but fellow travellers are not inconsiderate either. Hard to get around without taking the tram/bus- about 20mins walk to the train station.
lovely place, especially loved that it is situated in a culture hub, with yoga studios, dance halls, bio companies, cafe & bistros just next door. Artsy furnishing, bathroom decorated like a tropical rainforest. 1 minute walk to tram station. Overall very impressed, staff was nice too.

ItalyThe Bunk Bed's should have better Mattrass. I got a slight back-aching from a tiny bit too soft Mattrass? Smilings' from a Traveller which stood at the Backpacker's Hostel in Basel
The frindly atmosphere as well as the great Coffee all along my entire stay. Just set for consumption, as well as to be asking for at the counter when ever exhausted. Thank you soooo much Ahh, and for the short notice handling of an over-night stay. You have a great coordination Team at the up-front Reception Desk.
