Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SwitzerlandMake sure you choose the lower beds, as the upper bunk beds are accessible only by hard & slippery metal ladders. I guess you have to get there early, unlike me. Also, the beds cover the plugs for your phone in the upper bunks, so that you have to disturb other guests over their plug-in.
Amazing staff, very helpful & with a great sense of humour. They left me a key in the box outside the doors so i could check in later than usual, with a personal message, very sweet. I felt really cared for. The place itself is beautiful, full of huge plants, large windows, mid-century furniture. They have a bar, a breakfast area, a backyard, lots of books, games & magazines. You could even do some work there on the computer, thanks to the free wifi and all of the lounging areas. The beds are also very comfortable. You can walk there within 15 min from the train station, it's very accessible. The checkout was also very simple & they even get you a bus ride to the airport the next morning! The bathrooms are big, there is enough room for everyone, and there is a community kitchen with all the appliances for you to use. There are lots of shops and restaurants/bars in the area. Overall a great stay.

United KingdomLittle too expensive for what it was, but I was generally impressed.
Comfy beds and great organisation. Breakfast was decent and the coffee was great. I appreciated the cleanliness of the dorm room and the size of the lockers to get my horrible massive pack in. Situated in a cool courtyard of interesting art and dance and music.

IndiaThe mixed dorm was pretty good. The bed size was almost that of a double bed with plenty of charging space. The shower area was also pretty clean and big.

SwitzerlandWe stayed here because we needed to sleep somewhere between a very late flight arrival and a very early train the next morning. Because we arrived very late and left very early we needed to do the self-check in & self-check-out. I got some instructions from the hostel about the whole process, so I thought that what they said would be easy to do. However, we spent a while trying to even find the hostel and the key locker (for information, it's inside the courtyard of the big building, it's maybe the 3rd or the forth door on the right). When we finally got the key out of the locker, we were then surprised by a little folded up note which contained the most confusing instructions of how to find the door to where our room was (it's not the same as the main reception door). It was close to 1am and we were there, in the darkness, trying to first translate the message and then figure out where the hell the door was. It felt like a bloody treasure hunt, which is not at all what you need at 1am after a long journey. Eventually we found the door (it was on the right from the elevator door; this door was either for a bio shop or a cafe, if I remember correctly, but it also leads to the rooms). Eventually we got to our room, which was very stuffy. The toilet wasn't very clean and also didn't smell very well. We were instructed to leave the key in the morning in the key box at the reception, but since we had no access to it at 6am, we had to just drop off the keys by the entrance door we had access to. I know this is a hostel, but considering it's still somewhat expensive, I feel like we should have had a better experience (at least with check in and check out).

CanadaHonestly, I can't think of anything.
The facility was perfect (to me). The decor was exceptional, the space had a lot of charm, the neighbourhood was quite unique, and easily accessible from the main station whether you're arriving on foot or on public transit. As a bonus, as part of the stay I received a card which provided access to complimentary use of public transit within Basel. Everything was clean, organized, important information clearly provided by staff and well signed where appropriate. Additionally, they were happy to offer suggestions or recommendations about how to fill your time while in town - great ambassadors for Basel.

United StatesWe booked a private room and the pictures do not at all match the room we received. The private rooms are in a different location than the dorms, so we did get what we paid for, but the room we had was not advertised in the pictures as the other (and much nicer) rooms were. So be aware, that a private room may also include a room that has 2 sets of bunks and a full bed, limiting the room you have and the cute ambiance advertised in the pictures.
Great location, an easy walk from the Gare and to restaurants. Includes public transportation access and has coffee and small breakfast on site and included.

NetherlandsWe did not mind at all, but our family room looked out on the terrace from both the hostel as a beer brewery, and it could be noisy sometimes. It's easy to solve by closing the windows at that side of the room.
This bnb is actually in a very relaxed part of Basel, and it's a very nice place to stay overnight. 😊 We loved the fact that the city of Basel granted this hotel to print out the Basel card in our name so we could make use of public transportation and have a reduction on museum visits. Our room was spacious and light with a hammock as a lovely extra. And two comforters on the double bed, just like home 👌 The staff were all very friendly and forthcoming. The breakfast was basic, but the bread was fresh and delightful. Also not expensive in comparison to the Swiss prices in general.
