Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe hotel was supposed to be 4 star, my room was a disgrace. Just because we are travelling solo doesn’t mean we deserve to be in a shoe box. The price I was charged, certainly did not reflect the quality of the accomodation.
Close to tram line and old town.

United StatesThe room we were given overlooked a construction site. They started working very early in the morning (7am). It was very noisy. The room was not very nice. The floor was uneven and squeaky. The bathroom was very, very small.
The location was probably the only reason to stay there.

SwitzerlandVery bad positioning of the switch for bedside light and socket for mobile phone charger. In my room 2-6 these were positioned at the back of an alcove and could not be reached (photo). The window was warped and didn't close properly, leading to a draught and street noise. Water had obviously leaked in (photo). Access to the tiny shower was obstructed by fixed furniture (photo).
Great location by the river. Good choice at breakfast. Convenient coffee and tea station on the landing of each floor. When I asked for non-feather duvet and pillow these were provided. I asked for a bath robe and they brought it within 5 min.

United KingdomUnfortunately it falls short on value for money. The Dyson fan was dirty as was the shower (pictured). I initially thought the cleaning staff had forgotten, but turns out it’s the anti-slip surface of the shower that with time has gotten grimy. I would expect to see this in a hostel but not a 4* hotel in the centre of Basel. Then there’s the communal drinks stations and ironing boards. Imagine arriving late from dinner, changing, and discovering you need to dress again to go and get a glass of water by the staircase. The ironing board is a meter too short so good luck ironing anything. If your room is not facing the river and you’re staying on a Friday or Saturday night, be prepared for a lot of noise from the street as there’s bars and people stay there until 3-4am. We were on the 4th and last floor and I can’t say it helped much. The wifi also doesn’t reach the 4th floor. It would’ve been nice for half the price but you can find better hotels with more attention to detail in this city.
Very well-designed hotel. Rooms are spacious.

United StatesNo air conditioning only a fan. It was very hot in the room making it difficult to sleep. The view out of our window was on the street side facing a big crane and some construction.

GermanyNot for disabled people like me! And it is very loud because of the 2 bars on the street. The single rooms are to small but the double rooms opposite the hotel are comfortable! No air-conditioned, they display a Dyson Fan, which is not enough considering the heat and the noise of the street
Very friendly staff, the location is great at the Rhein river The food at the restaurant is delicious, i can recommend it

BelgiumThe room was too hot. As there was only a small Dyson to cool things down, it was not enough to serve as a proper climate control. I prefer a old fashioned ceiling fan ;) Opening the window at night wasn’t an alternative either as there was a lot of noise from outside. The parking discount (@Lidl) unfortunately did not work.
Location and historic buildings. The rooms were very nice and well equipped. There was free coffee, water, and sweets on every floor. Even an ironing station on each floor.

NetherlandsMy room was rather small (that’s ok) but it was terribly hot because temperatures were so high. There was a very expensive fan but it was still too warm, maybe an old fashioned fan is actually more effective. It’s not a reason to get airconditioning and I understand it’s a result of high temperatures and reality but I didn’t sleep very well. Not a complaint just a fact.
