Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesOver priced for the amenities. Hot tub that is not hot. The rooms are old and dated but they are clean. Kind of small for what we had to pay. . The front desk girls are rude. They seemed bothered if we asked them for help with anything.
The location is great. Tucked away from busy Tamarindo but close enough to walk into town. Its about a mile and half walk. Easier to rent a golf cart. The wait staff, kitchen staff, and security guards are all very nice and accommodating.

United StatesThe cost to add a child/person to the reservation at the hotel was a lot more expensive than adding it on booking.com. So I had to cancel my booking on booking.com and re-book on the website to get the better price. The lines to check-in can be very long if tour group comes same day as you. Some of the activities and entertainment they advertise on their schedule do not happen.
The check-in process was very long, as there was a huge line to check-in and get keys right at the check-in time. But the staff was very nice and attentive once you reached the front. The food is really good, but again, there can be lines, but if you go at a different time than everyone else, then you can avoid the lines. We were sad there was no show on the night we were there, even though it said there was a show. Also, there were no activities specifically for kids, even though the schedule showed kids activities. The only activities that happened that I saw was some pool dancing.fitness, and some games set up by the pool (darts and mini golf hole). The room was really nice and the beach is beautiful - right out front! You can cross the little stream and walk along a lovely long beach (playa langosta) with lots of sand dollars. Incredible sunset beach.

Costa RicaThe quality of the all inclusive drinks is average at best, they use cheap liquors for drinks. Some areas of the hotel are showing their age. Pathways get a little slippery when it rains, so be careful.
Great location, the rooms are really nice, lots of food and a lot of variety.

United StatesThe pool is spacious. There’s a hot tub area but it’s not very warm not are the jets that impressive. They had a fun water aerobics /dance class. Some other games (ping pong, etc) exist around the pool. The playground is small but sufficient. The kids club is a joke. A small outdoor play area with very little activities. You can’t drop your kids there. The entertainment was pretty good (staff did various games and sports, evening band, and one show a night). However some of the scheduled items didn’t exist or started late (twice the kids mini disco just didn’t occur) The food was the worst part. Breakfast was okay but lunch and dinner buffet did not look appetizing at all. The afternoon snack bar near the pool was really bad. Burgers which ran out often, tons of fried food that didn’t even taste good (French fries, fried chips, chicken nuggets, chips and beans) and some sad looking fruit . We got one dinner at their Al la carte Italian restaurant which was nice meal. Otherwise we tended to walk up the street to local delicious restaurants for lunch and dinner . Also if you have young kids , note that the hours of lunch and dinner start late (12:30,19:30).
On arrival check in was smooth. The bellboy helped with our luggage. Parking was free. The best parts of this hotel are its location, it’s in a quieter part of town. The beach is a mix of a rocky section and then a sandy section, there’s a river that flows between the end of the property and a national preserve. During low tide it’s possible to cross over the river and you have endless untouched beach to enjoy. Quiet, beautiful. The hotel buildings are surrounded by lush landscaping, beautiful birds. The lobby is open and breezy , with nice live music in the early evenings.

United StatesNot a true all inclusive because many of the bars and restaurants aren’t open most of the time. They don’t readily restock the refrigerator in your room. They don’t have enough staff at the bars. The pool was okay but would be better with a bar or some sort of water feature. Not enough beach chairs and umbrellas
The location is wondering because you have direct access to a nice beach and download. At the pool, there was ample seating.

CanadaI would not go there just for the food….it was adequate but not particularly special. We don’t drink, much, so the watered down drink didn’t bother us I would not stay there because of the beach…the rocks and rip-tides do not make this beach very user-friendly…and I live for water sports, so this is very important to me. Fortunately Tamarindo beach makes up for that. It is crowded, but a great, safe beach….take the bus to get there. The main eating area was lacking in a lot of the small, but important details. A few annoying instances: The salt and pepper shakers were often empty or non-existent. the coffee machines often had no stir sticks the juice machines often spouted just sofa water instead of the wanted drink
A very relaxed vibe Pool was really great Lots of activities the pool and dance exercises were great The walk to and back from Tamarindo along the beach was superb The music was 9.5/10….excellent! The fresh fruit was wonderful, varied and plentiful. Never went away hungry. It was not gourmet by any stretch but we could always find something tasty. Room was spacious and clean Staff was helpful

AustraliaThe room was somewhat tired with lots of minor things not well maintained - the airconditioning leaked drops of water on the floor, the door to the veranda was very stiff but able to be opened, the flyscreen door to the verandar was broken. I wouldn't have expected these things in such a high level resort. Also you should be aware that the resort is about 2 kms from Tamarindo beach / town and the resort offers no transportaton there so I took a local taxi that cost me US$16 for the return trip.
There was a relaxed flow to the day on the resort with large windows of time to go to the free buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner and with plenty of drinks and snacks throughout the rest of the day. In between there was life around the pool area and I particularly enjoyed the aqua aerobics as well as reading at the beach cafe where you could be mesmerised with both the ocean and the swimming pool area at the same time. Dipping in and out of the pool througout the day was great as well as the sunsets down at the beach.

United StatesLava rock beach was nice to look at, but not a swimming beach which I did not know due to the big surfing waves, bathroom shower did not drain while showering, wanted to shoot pool, but the table only took quarters and there was no way to get change for a dollar bill, could not put your plastic cup within reach while you were in the pool, music should be more diversified throughout the day.
Excellent Value, comfortable beds, cleaning service daily, warm pool towels daily, fruit and salads, daily a.m. smoothies, can bring your yeti for drinks, meat and omelette station chef so nice and always had a smile on his face, pick up location for excursions, very close to the town of Tamarindo.

United StatesThe staff was actually evil. Not a single person was remotely friendly. Constantly harrased us the entire trip. Couldn't have drinks by the pool. Not allowed to bring guests back to your room. Place felt like a prison run by prison security. It's also a geriatric facility. We were all in our 20s and this resort was all mostly old people. So if your are old, you'll love this place. If you are younger and like to party, get a hostel or airbnb in town because this isn't the spot for you.
The rooms were clean, comfortable, and air conditioning worked great! Rooms had everything we needed. The food was also wonderful. Loved the buffets, drinks, coffee, fresh fruit, etc. We were a group of 12 college guys and we thought the food was awesome. The pool and beach were great as well. All in all the resort itself was awesome.
