Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaNo complaints.
Beautiful Spot. Walking distance to Butterfly Brewery & Restaurant (just at the end of their lane, 5min). There is a shortcut to the Montezuma waterfalls from their property. The views are breathtaking. Rooms are very comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent. Rooms have small fridges. You also have access to a larger shared fridge if needed. Also the staff on site was wonderful. My only regret is not staying longer. Highly recommend.

United KingdomIt is a little bit out of town and you have to walk up a steep hill but when you cross the hanging bridge it is worth it.
It is an incredible place. We saw so much wildlife and the room was HUGE. The bathroom is really clean and you have a balcony that overlooks the jungle and sea and it was incredible to wake up to everyday. The hanging bridge is incredible and the best one we have encountered in Costa Rica.

GermanyFirst of all, the room was quite large and the view from the balcony is very nice. The breakfast was really good and we saw monkeys all day long. But we didn’t like a few things. First of all, for people with no car it is a very very steep way up to the hotel. Fortunately someone picked us up to the hotel. The hanging bridge can only be used with the room keys, so you can’t use it to enter the hotel for the first time. We thought the stay would be very relaxing and doing yoga in the morning, instead there was a construction site beside our room, which starts at 7am…not relaxing at all in our holidays. The bed in our room was very comfy and clean but in the bathroom there were many foreign hair and spiders (small ones). We had a little coffee machine in our room, which was nice, badly the glasses and cups were used and not clean.

United KingdomI don't like to say negative things but there are a few things this hotel could do to improve their offering. For the price point we were expecting much a better hotel than we got. Bearing in mind we are traveling around central America and have stayed in various types of accomodation and we are not fussy people at all. However for the price the hotel is quite dated and there are general maintenance items they could fix, paint, clean, redo. If you are aware of this before you stay then you won't be disappointed but the photos are not up to date. There is no reception really, you show up and are not greeted by anyone until we found the cleaner (who doesn't speak any English at all which is fine because we used our basic Spanish and Google translate.) The breakfast alternates offering different things each day which is good. We didn't get to try it all but I'm sure it was fine. The pool is very uninviting and could be improved. The pillows had black mould on them (it's the jungle so granted things don't dry properly). The toilet seat was broken and coming off. The table under the TV was fraying at the edges. Tiles broken on the stairs. Needs repainting. Overall the property needs some TLC and the "hotel" element needs improving because other than the cleaner there is no one around all day to give you information on what to do/ help or anything. You can message on booking.com and they do reply quite quickly but this isn't helpful if you don't have access to data outside of the hotel and need information fast. The landscaping needs attention. The reception could be improved. It's a long walk up a very steep steep road from Montezuma. Climbing this for the able bodied person is fine, hard but fine. For someone who has any difficulties walking or balancing they will struggle walking to this hotel. Water provision is not much but I think you can drink the tap water.
The beds are super comfy!! balcony over looking the ocean was really lovely.

United Statesit is about a 15 min walk (uphill) from Montezuma
Beautiful property, lovely rooms that all have a great view of the ocean. First time I’ve had a hot shower and AC in my 3 weeks in Costa Rica! Super close to the waterfalls, it’s impossible to visit this property without seeing tons of wildlife - I saw many monkeys and coatis just from my balcony! friendly staff makes a very good breakfast

United KingdomThe pool is still damaged and dangerous around the edge. Ants had to be poisoned daily as would infest the room. Reception staff were hardly ever there and the what app number took 7 hours to get back to us No yoga This unfortunately looks like it's just being run down and not much is getting spent on it.
The view is good and the 2 Spanish cleaning ladies tried their best to help.

CanadaEverything was wonderful.
This place was absolutely magical. Staying up in the trees we had an incredible view of the ocean, could hear the waterfalls, and it was so peaceful. It was the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. The staff were very kind and accommodating (helped with luggage storage, booking a shuttle to our next place, etc). We saw monkeys and hiked to the waterfalls all by the property. The breakfast was wonderful and the sun deck was the perfect place to watch the sunrise. Pool was fantastic. Peaceful, beautiful, one of a kind.

United StatesWe loved our stay at the Sunshine Sanctuary. The view from the rooms was amazing and we saw a variety of wildlife from our balcony (monkeys, coatis, tons of different birds, iguanas, and an agouti). The breakfast was so good as well. Also, the free trail to the waterfall was a great perk, we went 5 times during our 8 day stay.

ItalyI had an amazing time at this beautiful place! The views were absolutely stunning and the room was spotless. The sea view was breathtaking and the people were so friendly and welcoming. I really enjoyed the yoga class on the deck and the fact that it was only a 10 minute walk from the town. Breakfast was also included and it was delicious - a bowl of fresh fruit, eggs and avocado toast with tea or coffee. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing getaway!
