Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Czech RepublicThe location is just in walking distance to the historical center and some other interesting sites. I was amazed by the fact that they had USB chargers built in for us Europeans forgetting the proper adapter. The room was not equipped with a hair dryer, but very helpful staff lent it for use. Breakfast was really fresh and tasty

BelgiumThe hotel cheated us and the staff's reaction was to shrug. We booked a junior suite, what was supposed to be a large room with a spacious bathroom and a fireplace. On check in, without any explanation, we were given a 6 square meter room with a tiny bathroom and a window facing the loud internal patio. Literally the front door would snag on the corner of the bed, because there wasn't enough space. We politely complained to the receptionist that this wasn't what we had booked and paid for, but he only shrugged, said that the hotel was full, and tried to gaslight us that the room we were given was the junior suite, while it looked nothing like the photos and had none of the amenities we expected. The man was rude and dismissive, and lied straight to our faces. I showed him the booking description that said the room we had booked was supposed to 18m2, and he had the balls to look into my eyes and tell me this meant 1.8m2 and that it's what we got. I can't even. It was 7PM on New Year's Eve after a 12h travel day, so we had little choice but to stay in the cramped room. Of course the hotel reception blasted loud music until 5am and refused to lower the volume "because it's the new year's." You're a hotel, your one job is to give your guests a place to sleep, no matter what day or occasion. In the morning, the breakfast was the worst I've gotten in 2 months traveling in the region, one scrambled egg with dry bread, coffee-coloured water and a slice of wilted watermelon. Now the location. The area is SKETCHY as hell after dark, not to mention right off a main busy road. If it looks conveniently located between the old town and Mariscal Sucre on the map, just know that it's neither, and you'll need a taxi to get anywhere.

After a very friendly reception, I parked my vehicle in their secure parking lot and checked in. The suite was very large, clean and comfortable. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the shower was hot and high pressured. The room was very clean and quiet throughout the night. I had an excellent sleep. The free morning breakfast was perfect with scrambled eggs, a bun, fruit and a coffee. Overall, this was an excellent stay at an excellent and comfortable hotel.

Probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed. Very basic rooms. Not a nice area, dirty rooms and sheets and very smelly bathrooms (the smell was so unbearable that we couldn’t get inside the bathrooms)

CanadaWhen you get to Quito and are suffering from the altitude the stairs at this hotel are just very difficult. The staff did help carrying the suite cases. The staff we had at the desk were very unhelpful, to the point the guy in the great little Pizza place on their street did far more to help us out. We speak very little Spanish but get by with some Google translate and the help of patient locals. The front desk seemed to not want to spend the time to communicate. They have some nicer rooms I am going to assume but we got a tiny room on the top floor that was about the size of a prison cell and had all the same charm. The bed was terrible I felt like I was falling out of it most of the night. We stayed the first night and then with the help of the owner of that great Pizza place got a cab and escaped. You also have to pay cash this is a hostel pretending to be a hotel because they have bathrooms. To be fair if I were in my late teens to late 20's I would have found this a great adventure but at 51 it was just terrible. So for young travelers looking to travel on the cheap this would be a good fit. A hostel with your own bathroom. I paid for three nights as they collect upfront in cash. When we took off I just took off without asking for any back, as the thought of dealing with the front desk was not worth the money. It really had the feeling of a prison escape so I guess they gave us a thrill.
On the first few floors they have some very nice wood work.

United StatesThe manager was threatening and we were women traveling alone. You have to carry your bags up two flights of stairs to get into the hotel and breakfast was 4 more flights of stairs. My room didn't have a window, so no air flow. Terrible. I would never stay here. They made us pay with cash and charged us more than the booking reservation. Super unethical!

IrelandEverything! Literally the room was awful, it was so load outside on the street that we had to play white noise to order to sleep. It was absolutely boiling in the room and no fan provided and opening the window would have o my made the noise worse. The bathroom was just the worst! The smell was constant and it was unbearably bad. The bathroom floor flooded every time we had a shower. The towels were never changed and the room wasn’t serviced either. The breakfast was nothing to talk about, just some bread and eggs

AustraliaWithout doubt, the noisiest hotel I've ever stayed in. The walls, door, and roof of the room you stay in are basically just for privacy and do absolutely nothing to dampen the noise from inside or outside the hotel. The door to my room directly faced that of another guest and I could hear him and his partner's lovemaking as though they were doing it right beside me - absolutely disgusting! Other people in the hotel were just as bad, constantly slamming doors, having conversations in the hallway, and shouting at one another across the hotel. I was on the top floor, so I've no idea what could possibly have been happening above me, but it sounded like a landslide had washed over the hotel in the morning with the constant banging, stomping, and crashing sounds coming from the roof. Inexplicably, there was also a rooster crowing at almost hours of the day and several dogs barking loudly in the street. You expect this kind of noisiness from hostels but not from a supposed three-star "hotel". The location is fine during the day as you are relatively close to most of Quito's main attractions in the old town and the streets are busy and full of people. During the night, however, it's a totally different experience. There's almost nobody on the street except for delinquents past 6 or 7 at night, and virtually every shop is closed. There are no food places in the immediate vicinity except for a rather nice pizza shop in the same street, but unless you feel like having Italian for dinner every night you'll have to walk a good 10 minutes both ways along some rather sketchy streets to find something else. As other reviews have pointed out, the stairs are also a complete nuisance. If you are an older person, suffering from altitude sickness, or even just unfit, it's going to be a rough journey to and from the hotel every day.
Staff were all very lovely, friendly, and very attentive, which is a shame given how terrible everything else is. I did, however, only encounter one staff member who spoken English so be prepared to use your hands or have a translation app at hand if you don't know any Spanish. Again, the staff are all very nice, so if you're like me and speak very bad broken Spanish they'll still do their best to understand what you're trying to say and help you out.

AustriaThe hotel has an excellent location. Restaurants, supermarket, park and the old town can all be reached on foot in a short time. The room is a dream - very spacious. The bathroom including the shower is also very large. Super comfy bed, nice couch and even a small fireplace. From the balcony you have a beautiful view. All in all, nothing was missing. The staff is very friendly and tries to help with words and deeds despite language barriers. We could even leave some of our luggage there for a week for a small fee. If we travel to Quito again, we will gladly stay at Hotel David again. Thanks for the nice days!
