They kept calling me asking if I was still coming. The room was paid for, the booking was made. I had every intention of coming and checking in but got delayed and they made it feel as if I was inconveniencing them by not being there at their designated time.

Easy check in - no issues, room as expected, good size, with good heating and okay bathroom. However view was awful. Would recommend paying a little extra for a decent view rather than roofs.

The Junior Suite, for the money, is a little small for my expectations. Although on the 4th floor, the noise of an event resonated through to the room.

The room was so uncomfortably hot even when the thermostat was on the lowest setting with the window wide open. I phoned reception and it seemed to be the temperature set for the whole hotel which turned off at 9pm. The shower gel and soap in the room was empty and the drain was blocked in the bath so the water filled above my ankles when using the shower.

The breakfast was not cooked enough especially the pudding. The staff just showed me the table for breakfast , never informed me it was a buffet until I asked them. I was sitting for a minute. The next staff member asked if I wanted tea or coffee, still did not inform me of buffet breakfast. Served me coffee and then went away. I know people are tired and busy. But I was not in this hotel ever before . The price of the accommodation was overly priced for the service that was provided.

Some vegetarian and vegan options in the restaurant, but coconut milk was added to the lentil curry and milk to the soups.

Car park is a shared public parking space, which get full by night especially if the hotel have events (which I notice it’s almost everyday during my 6 days of stay). On one of the day I ended up parking on top of a road side kerb. The initial room they gave was at the 1st floor, which were too stuffy and without ventilation. (Unbearably). Upon complaining, immediately they change room to the 4th floor where ventilation can be felt in corridor and room. Heater is scheduled and can’t really be controlled from the room. I ended up getting a table fan from them so that the air is circulated. Thank you.

Location is walking distance to the town centre. Athelone is just beautiful, almost like a resort.

Not a big problem, but, on our last night the electricity for the room lights went off. The night manager tried three time to restore power, but it was unsuccessful.

1. Early morning breakfast was available (always delicious) and gave us flexibility to leave early on our daily sojourns. 2. Liked the option to not have daily room cleaning. 3. Room security (using room card in the lift) was good. 4. We met Manuela, who works in the bar and restaurant, She's very friendly and really enhanced our visit. 5. Checking in and out was quick and easy. Staff helped us get a taxi, that was super nice!

The service in the hotel bar was poor. I felt they were unstaffed and had little training. They didnt have my dinner booking although it was rectified quickly and we got a table. The meal felt overpriced for the experience

The room was a nice size and bed was very comfy. Staff on reception were friendly and helpful. The Hotel was in the centre of Athlone so very handy to walk to shops etc

Parking was a bit confusing as the elevator door, which leads to upstairs reception, needs a card-key to access otherwise you need to walk around the front to get to reception.

The staff were very pleasant and very hospitable.

Car parking is tight. If you take a drive it is possible there will be no space when you come back. Parking is poor and expensive in Athlone in general. Irish hotels are very expensive for what you get these days and this one is no exception. It is much cheaper to go abroad than to take a local holiday in Ireland.

The lady at reception who registered us initially but also moved us to a new room when there was a plumbing issue was very polite and efficient. She should be commended. The room was lovely and warm and the central location cannot be beaten. There are plenty of good places to eat within a short distance if one does not want to eat in the hotel. All in all you won't do better in Athlone.
