Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesStaff were super lovely and offered a wealth of knowledge about all of Iceland. Location was great and free parking readily available on the street. We loved our stay! Some other reviews point out that they didn’t like that this is a B&B and the owners have some more rules vs a standard hotel. In our experience the staff were very accommodating and available.

HungaryHotel Pheonix was an excellent place to stay. It is close to the city centre. The breakfast kept me going for all day, and most importantly, our friendly host was able to give us personalized recommandations and informations on tours, food, culture, history, basically anything. It really made a difference for our stay in Iceland.

United KingdomNo allocated parking, but we got a space each time outside. Breakfast was good, but repetitive over the 3 mornings. The rooms and hotel had no refreshments, we had to go out for them to local supermarket (5 mins way), would have been nice to have had a kettle/tea/coffee in room.
The hotel was very well placed for the shops, bars and restaurants of central Reykjavik. We only had a short walk to them. The room size was great, beds were very comfortable and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Good value. Hotel very clean and felt cosy.

GermanyLovely little hotel with lovely owners who happily share their knowledge about Reykjavik and Iceland. The rooms are very charming and clean, the hotel it located just a few steps from Hlemmur, one of the two big bus stations in Reykjavik from where you can easily get wherever you want. When you follow Laugavegur east from the hotel, you get to the shopping area of the capital. All in all a great place to stay, the only small drawback being the location, which isn't in the inner centre of the city, but some 15 minutes walk away. Will happily come again.

United KingdomThe sulphur smell from the water but you do get used to it and if you let the water run it will disappear.
We liked the comfortable bed, clean room and regular laundry change. We like the continental breakfast which kept you going for most of the day. We parked our hire car outside the hotel on the street as this is free.

United StatesBefore CoVid, the Phoenix breakfasts were legendary. Now they are well-planned and plentiful but not legendary (nothing cooked).
When we had a flat tire on our rental car, the hotel owners went out of their way to get us help (when the rental car agency would do nothing for us). This is just one example of the personal attention you can expect at the Phoenix.

United StatesA bit of choice at breakfast that could be made the night before would be awesome such as a different juice for those of us who favor reduced-acid foods, etc. Alternatively, I could have mentioned this at check-in. Tea availability outside breakfast hours, perhaps with a biscuit, would have been a nice addition.
The hotel public areas and our room were beautifully and tastefully furnished. The bathroom looked like it has just been remodeled: stunning! It was great to have a separate sitting area with desk and table as we flew home from Reykjavik and had much reorganizing of luggage our last night at the hotel. The breakfast was presented on a tray with a variety of delicious goodies including crunchy addition to generous yogurt. Our host was engaging, helpful in his suggestion for how to spend our last few hours in the area before heading to the airport, and very helpful having taken our suitcases by hand to our second (we'd consider it third) floor room. The bed was wonderfully comfortable. The location allowed us to walk everywhere. Parking was free on the street in front of the hotel. We had expected street parking to be fully occupied and we would need a public garage. Thank you for a great stay.

United KingdomNothing at all, it was perfect for me and my needs
Hotel Phoenix is perfectly situated to walk into central Reykjavik and only 2 min walk from bus stop #13 for airport shuttles and tour pick up/drop offs. The hotel itself is a bit more like a B&B, but the room I was in was by far the cleanest I have ever encountered, it was absolutely spotless! Breakfast was brilliant, and the two gents running the place were very kind, friendly and helpful with advice.

United StatesWe couldn’t storage our luggage earlier than checking time, but I think it’s a common thing in Reykjavik.
The hotel was immaculate, super clean and all the furniture was shining. our room was cleaned daily, our towels were changed daily, at the end of the day we got a chocolate on our pillows… lovely place. so many beautiful and thoughtful details. The hotel was quiet and walking distance from everywhere. There were super good restaurant just steps from the hotel.

United KingdomNot really anything that stands out. The slight sulphur smell from the shower didn't bother us and was explained on arrival by the hosts as its naturally heated from geothermal activity. This was similar when we stayed in New Zealand at Rotarua
Close to city centre and a few minutes to bus stop for tour pick up point. Room was very clean and the hosts very helpful. Breakfast was filling and the bed super comfortable. Wifi was quick, bathroom was clean and the Icelandic mineral shower nice and hot.Best 2 🌟 hotel we've stayed in.

United StatesNothing. It was all good.
The Hotel Phoenix was our last place (and favorite) of stay during our month long journey through Scandinavia and Iceland. It came after a Viking Ocean Cruise and stays at Hilton's in Stockholm and Helsinki. We had the best experience as the hotel owners treated us in a special way and helped guide us during our time in Reykjavik. Of course, the breakfast was over the top and the location provided us quick access to the downtown happenings as well as the bus stop for our Golden Circle and South Coast tours.

PolandThe owner is so snarky and has and answer to everything. Let's see what he has to say this time. You really don't feel at ease there. You feel like you are the guest is someone's house that does not really want guest but has to. THe breakfast is till 9h30 and not 9h31 after 9h30 you can dream to have more coffee or tea at the breakfast table there is even a last call at 9h20 if you wan. THe room are cold and the bathroom even more. THey will tell you that it is normal in iceland and that if you have a big heater in the room it becomes too warm. Which is simpy not true because in other accommodation they give you a heater if you are cold and the heater are not pocket size for a room 26m2.
The bus stop not far to go everywhere further away from the center.

United StatesThroughout my decades of travel to 60+ countries, I’ve never experienced such disturbing behavior from a lodging proprietor, to the point of feeling genuinely unsafe in the presence of the "day manager" (& self-described owner of this small 9-room B&B). Instead of treating guests with even a modicum of civility or respect, you are “greeted” in a most unwelcoming manner, & he becomes visibly upset by any reasonable request no matter how minor, which he then escalates to emotional hostility & vicious verbal abuse. If I had been able to find another place to stay, I would have immediately left. I was particularly concerned about his unpredictable unbalanced behavior at night, especially since he had a master key to the guest rooms. In retrospect, I should have paid more attention to the 1- & 2-star TripAdvisor reviews, & taken them more seriously, as they ultimately read like a script of was happening to me. They repeatedly & accurately describe a pattern of unwarranted behavioral instability toward numerous other guests. I have no doubt that he will angrily respond to this feedback in an attempt to discredit me, as he has done with every other unsatisfactory review (since at least 2012) that describes the same wildly inappropriate conditions. I take no pleasure in writing this review, as this man is obviously suffering emotionally, & I honestly hope he gets the gets the treatment he so clearly needs. As a healthcare professional & avid traveler, my only objective is to warn others of his terrifying & disrespectful conduct, so as to not become unwitting victims of his unbalanced, unprovoked, & unpredictable explosive outbursts & verbal attacks towards guests, who reasonably assumed they were paying for a calm & comfortable stay, with no inkling that they may be at risk of being subjected to this kind of abuse. Details provided upon request.
If I had been able to interact exclusively with the friendly & extremely helpful other gentleman working there, who has also been referred to in other reviews as the “night guy” & “night manager,” & who I believe is a business partner/co-owner of this facility, I would have given this place a glowing 5-star review. He was very welcoming when checking me in the evening I arrived, & politely informed me about the multitude of guest “rules” (that I sensed he didn’t necessarily agree with). The only other time I was fortunate enough to interact with him, he voluntarily provided lots of valuable tips & pointed out important local idiosyncrasies relevant to flight departure from Keflavik Airport, use of the public transit system, as well as offering great recommendations. He always treated me with kindness, respect, & appreciation. Unfortunately, during the rest of my stay I was forced to deal with his partner (AKA "day manager") whose modus operandi is verbally terrorizing his guests.

United StatesBeing asked why I am at the property when I arrived. (Um....I am a guest.) It felt as though I was not welcome. And then having to deal with Xenophobia from one of the two staff members handling check-in when I was finally allowed to enter. It was infuriating having to deal with someone stating, "Well, Americans don't usually know how [this and this] is done" after I repeatedly explained that I did know. I informed the staff member of my frustration with how I was being spoken to. There was no concern at all - I guess because I had already paid my booking up front before my arrival, so they already had my money. This was a horrible introduction to Iceland. I will say the other staff member attempted to be apologetic when they showed me to my room.
Oh my goodness! The breakfast was PHENOMENAL! It was wonderful having the opportunity to try different tasty dishes. The building is really cute on the outside and it is decorated beautifully inside. It was in a good central location between bus stops for the Flybus airport transfer to/from Keflavik as well as meet ups for any excursions in and around Reykjavik. My room was extremely comfortable, cozy and inviting with a luxurious bed! And the bathroom was a great size stocked with products that provided an in-home spa-like experience.
