How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Really located at convinient place. I booked the place the same day of stay and got a place for only about 40€ which is very cheap for Iceland standards.

Nothing really
The kitchen which is big enough with a good range of utilities to prepare meals; the shared bath that is chic . A nice garden that you can relax

The hostel is nearby the traffic, so you might hear some noise from outside traffic. And it's very easy to miss it because the hostel sign is small, so I had a hard time to find and park my car.
The kitchen and dining area were very spacious. Complimentary cocoa, coffee, and tea were provided. The instructions for self-check-in and checkout were very clear. The room size was okay—not large, but much better than a typical hotel room in Tokyo. There were plenty of shared bathrooms and shower rooms. You can borrow a hair dryer at the reception desk. There are grocery stores and a gas station nearby. Btw, gas in Selfoss is way cheaper than Vik/hofn.

The fridge stank a bit, could do with a clean I think.
Excellent location and perfect to setup base and explore from. We stayed a couple of night doing just this. Good price, the toilets were clean, fairly quiet at night too. All in all good value for money.

Toilets could be better and checking out time should be at least at 11h00 and not at 10h00.

Self check in is super easy and means you can arrive at any time after a full day of exploring. Facilities are good and clean - lots of kitchen space, toilets, showers etc

The kitchen was not very clean.
The room was nice. The bathrooms were large and clean. The kitchen was large and well-equipped. Very easy check-in outside of front desk hours. Convenient location for touring the Golden Circle.

There is no staff, anyone can just walk in it feels like. Others had booked later in the evening, received a confirmation etc., but were not able to check in. Truly unhelpful staff via telephone. Microwave broken.
Nice kitchen with plenty of room in fridges etc., bathrooms were adequate, and the place was very warm, which is always nice in the winter. They should just really put in some more effort regarding safety and check-in/out.

The facility in the rooms was limited (which should be expected). And it appeared that no staff onsite.
The hotel was well located at the center of Selfoss, close by major roads, groceries and restaurants. The self-check-in was easy, room was clean and functional. Although the rooms did not have private bathrooms, but the shared bathrooms were plenty and well equipped. The heater was very powerful and kept the rooms warm in winter. The shared kitchen was large and well equipped- you can pretty much make any food as you were at home.

Ventilation could be better in the bathrooms.
Cozy beds, big and clean hostel, nice big showers, I think the floors were heated! I slept so well and had such a nice shower.

High pitch non stop beeping every 5 seconds that couldn't be turned off coming from reception.
Great kitchen, nice simple room. Extra nice to have sink in room. One bathroom was extra comfy. Perfume free bedding!! Extra good for those of us with allergies.

We booked a double room for 1 night, it was clean, nice and really confortable. Shared bathroom clean and big, nice forniture. Shared kitchen is very big, perfectly equiped, clean. Self-check-in easy. We really recommend Selfoss hostel
