How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The room was very small, and I struggled to find space for my luggage. Although there is space under the bed, it was not practical for me. The toilet and shower were also quite compact, which made things a bit uncomfortable.
The location was excellent—just a short walk from Kyoto Station, which made it very convenient for getting around the city. The hotel was clean and well-maintained overall, which is good for a 3-star hotel.

The bathroom smells kinda bad. Smell like sewer.

Checkout time at 10am is too early.
The location was excellent, almost just across Kyoto Station. It felt safe for a solo female traveler. The bed was comfortable. The room was clean. Natural light was good with the adequate window size.

The two things that weren't good and really need to be addressed are (a) a too soft and worn mattress with a relevant hollow spot; and (b) a winter duvet too warm for the room temperature even using the air conditioning a bit colder. Additionally, the ventilation of the WC could be less noisy. Also, the USB socket could be type C.
The location of the APA hotels is always great. Near train stations and city centres. The staff are always helpful and super polite. Clean and well maintained facilities. Including a small but low-cost self-service laundry facility for 500+200 Yen wash and dry which is a life saving for backpackers travelling light. The room, although small for European standards, is very cosy and has everything you need including a USB (type A) socket to charge your mobile device. All the lights and air conditioning controls are an arms reach from the bed.

Actually, I stayed only one night, and I didn’t have time to find anything I didn’t like 🙂
Nice hotel, well maintained. Very close to Kyoto Station. A 7-Eleven store is nearby. All information is available on the TV screen. If you want to extend your stay by one or two hours, it is possible to request it through the monitor.

The booking process of two rooms for two adults wasn't clear. My booking only mentioned one adult, and despite my email inquiry into the situation, and I was told (in an email) that it is correct, that I have booked for two adults in each of the two rooms I booked, I was charged an extra surcharge for the 'extra guest' in each room.
Love the location. Easy walk across to Kyoto Sky Tower with plenty of shopping and eateries around. Walking distance to Kyoto Train Station, another place filled with restaurants and shopping.

The bathroom is small, the water for the sink and the bath is shared (you cant turn on both at the same time) which is a bit wierd, and there is no tea

No great views but that is expected. Just walk over to the Kyoto train station and go to the Skyview walkway for free amazing views of the Kyoto Tower
Great location to the Kyoto train and bus station. Lots of good restaurants, convenience stores, Don Quiote, etc.
